Hive Will Come To Dominate Developing Countries

We tend to look at the world through out own eyes. This is only natural.

Cryptocurrency has become a world of big money players. We talk in billions as evidenced by the FTX collapse. Wall Street is heavily involved and we know what they are capable of. Silicon Valley VC money totaled $30 billion a couple years ago. When they are calling the shots, big numbers are involved.

Most of the world is not like this. For many countries, the numbers thrown around in New York City and San Francisco are unimaginable. This is where the foundation of cryptocurrency and blockchain needs to focus.

To the wealthy, all of this is really nothing more than a game. As for the rest of the world, it is life.

Here is where Hive can help.

image.png

The Unbanked

This was a topic that was big within the cryptocurrency world a number of years back. After a couple bull markets, like most of the early focus, it was lost in the mooning and Lambos. Nevertheless, this is a valid topic to focus upon.

When Hive is reaching into countries such as Nigeria, Venezuela, Ghana, and Cuba, you know good things are happening.

This is a target rich environment and a great place to grow an ecosystem. This is likely to serve as a foundation for Hive although it has not received much attention.

To start, we have to understand that many of the unbanked are so by choice. The belief tends to be they do not have access to banking services. It is not always the case.

Instead, we see people opting not to deal with the banks whenever possible. This makes sense when the banking system resembles loan sharks and Mafia hitmen. In other words, the corruption of the system is so evident that people opt out when they can.

Here is where Hive steps in.

We recently wrote about the situation in Venezuela and how it is making HBD a reality. In reading the original article, it is evident that the people in Sucre are thankful to be able to deal in US denomination yet not to have to touch the banks (or banknotes).

If businesses can align themselves with a medium of exchange that contains a unit of account they understand, gives them pricing stability, and they can get a hold of the currency, that is a winner.

This is what HBD does.

Hive Distribution

Many attack the distribution system on Hive. We see a lot of discussions about doing away with the base layer reward pool. This belief is that we should only have layer 2 tokens for this. There certainly are some challenges and things are not perfect.

The challenge with this is you hear that from people in the developed countries. Notice it is not from those in the nations I just mentioned. Once again, see things through our own eyes.

Where Hive excels is that we have the ability to get base layer coins into these areas. Due to the Proof-of-Brain mechanism, individuals, regardless of where they are in the world, are able to get $HIVE and HBD. This is vital to the future of this ecosystem.

When people are provided the tools, they will build around them. The situation in Venezuela shows that. What is key is to ensure enough of the currency makes it into those people's wallets. Here is where the PoB enters.

Obviously, through the reward pool, a portion of the new coins are going to be targeting that area. Like any other community, they can support each other in whatever means necessary. At the same time, many from the developed world toss votes to many from these areas.

This serves to help distribute the coins throughout the world. The US, UK, Japan, or Germany are not going to make Hive. These countries, for all their flaws, have relatively stable financial systems. A 2% drop in a $5 trillion economy is a lot but it is not the end of the world.

The same is not true for some of these other nations who end up being disproportionately affected when economic conditions go south.

The Benefits to Hive

For this reason, we can offer a number of benefits that is not available in the rest of the cryptocurrency world. Bitcoin, as an example, is viewed by many as the solution. This theory starts to fall apart when we question how will to the coin get distributed into the poorer countries. Unless they are mining, a purchase has to be made.

Therefore, here are some of the benefits to Hive:

  • coin distribution through PoB
  • stablecoin to engage in trade which is USD denominated yet backed by $HIVE
  • USD stability against a native currency without USD
  • feeless transactions for both customer and merchant
  • tap into the Hive economy which is global and not dependent upon local economic conditions in any one region

First world problems are on a much different level than what people in these countries experience. When it comes to success in cryptocurrency, this is the low hanging fruit.

Onboarding tens of thousands of people from these countries will make a major difference, to both Hive and in the lives of these individuals.

We have to understand the US Government is going to keep weaponizing the US dollar. This is going to have a negative impact on most countries throughout the world. Currencies outside the USD will fell the pain, as many already experienced.

HBD has incredible value because it enables people in these regions to piggyback the USD by operating outside the scope of the national legal tender. The fact that it is digital in nature means there is less threat from the local corruption. After all, it is hard to take money out of a wallet, especially if you don't know it exists.

Millions of dollars in transactions can take place a few HBD at a time. Over time, this will only grow as people realize the benefit to operating in a dollar denominated asset as opposed to the local ones.

The benefit from Hive's perspective is that most people in these countries are already aware of it. They would prefer to operate in the dollar but fear for safety since it usually means dealing in cash.

With HBD, we provide a solution in a digital form.

So when we think of places like Cuba, Venezuela, Nigeria, and Ghana, we see how the benefits only keep growing.

I have been a victim of being unbanked for years in South Africa and presently still, it is one of those reasons Hive has impacted positively giving me the opportunity to have my money in $HIVE & $HBD.

It is pretty cool how Hive and HBD are spreading across the globe especially in some of these less developed areas. I've been trying to remember for a while now that while 5 Hive might not be much to me in the US, it can be a huge to someone somewhere else.

Yeah. We had those stories of people paying for medicine for sick family memebers from the upvotes from articles on Hive. That is very impressive.

For sure. I remember the one where they bought groceries for a village for a month or something like that. Awesome stuff.

Developing countries are also emerging markets. Using Hive/HBD to transact and conduct business will be way preferable than the current traditional system. It also gives them the opportunity to build wealth outside the reach of the government.

It is a way to help them grow. We simply need to start a funding mechanism. Right now we are in the early stages but it is coming.

We just need to keep pushing the development so some of these features are available to the people in these nations.

Right. I think that's the way to go about it. Building and developing what they need and giving it to them.

Very good points! I see how important HBD is for those with a fiat currency crashing. Dollar is loosing value and I believe after taxes and inflation the 20% isn’t as amazing as it might seem but that argument is destroyed by his useful it is if you are in a nation with a fiat currency much worse off and something that gives u dollar peg and Interest rate like this can change lives or at least protect urself. This is indeed where Hive and especially HBD will shine the most. I have changed my mind on certain past criticisms because of this fact. There’s no disputing it.

For sure. I've been thinking a lot lately about the opportunities that Hive brings to countries like Cuba. I can argue that this blockchain has already made the country more affordable for many people. Here we have a growing community that is still in the early stages in terms of advocacy and voting power, but we are focused on the big picture, thinking about long-term success. We believe in Hive.

Think about my recent trip to visit my family while new year festivities. Prices here to get around the country are sky-rocketing, so I was running out of money to continue the trip. That's where Hive came in, for some HBD I had as an emergency fund. But this holding is not what I want to highlight, but the work of some rising tech-savy stars in our community who are developing solid services to go beyond the walls we find wherever we go as Cubans in the standard digital financial marketplace --including most established cryptocurrency exchange and trading services--, like @crptogeek (with @hiveremesas). From Hive directly to solving real demands. We continue to move forward.

Cuba needs to make a crypto bank with access to liquidity. This will really empower the people and businesses around the region. A problem i see in Cuba is the almost complete dependency on cash (paper money). While for example in Africa, they use a lot of digital payments using the phone, things like orange money, MTN, M-Pesa.

We are yet in our very first steps on digital payments. I think it will take some time to achieve something like that, being practical with the way things move on here. All what I know is that some bussiness --more in the private sector-- are accepting payments with crypto, but still primitive in massive adoption terms.

Start with the introduction and education. Make them know about Hive and what it can offer. This is the first step.

Get a community growing which then can spread. You are right, eventually getting the businesses involved is crucial.

Thats the point of a bank, they can easily hand you cash for your crypto. Instead of having to find someone willing to accept their products for crypto or other sorts of digital payment. TIME is the business model.

Cuba us a country with wonderful people who are driven and really have the entrepreneurial spirit. If we can push Hive into the country and help getting funding in different ways, that would be ideal.

It will take some time but getting people exposed to Hive is vital. This is where we start from.

By the way, that is terrific that you were able to tap into HBD to complete your trip. Sure you prefer it as an emergency fund but it is nice to have it when you need it.

More to come to you.

South Africa is in the same Developing Country boat, as we have one of the highest un-employed figures in the world. Millions are unbanked and the constant struggle to survive is a reality.

That is true. There are a lot that can be added to the list unfortunately. However, Hive is global, it cares little where one is.

So we can spread this throughout whatever country is in this position. The communities within those countries can start the process.

Thanks and the trick over here will be to get or appoint some IT literate persons to train the illiterate people how to use the Hive application.

I have an idea to present Hive to the coding students at our free coding project that we run with a non-profit partner, so let's see what can happen.

I recently learned about how the crypto has been helping Asian and the African writers. A lot of them managed to help their marriage, some paid intuitions, some paid family expenses and so on. I think Hive must be having those stories, I don't know how many pay their bills due to hive but if we arrange that sort of contest that would bring out a lot of stories.

Hard to tell. We do get them posted periodically when people do have something to share.

I am sure it is more common than we think. Plus we have something like Hive Borehole that is really helping people in Ghana.

That's looking like where Hive is heading. People in the US have a different idea of what it should be, but it is already changing lives in other places around the world. We are opening up to a massive global audience that is going to embrace it in different ways. I can't wait to see the eventual disruption.

The bar is set lower so we can help at a more rapid pace. This is where the groundswell can come from in my opinion.

What happens when you have millions in commerce being paid for in a country like Venezuela in HBD?

Unfortunately not many ways to change from HBD to fiat to make it useful. I've compiled a list of African countries and their payment methods and dominant exchanges in that continent.

That is true. One of the keys is to get HIVE/HBD pools to Bitcoin. That is the gateway to most exchanges.

That can work in Africa, but in Cuba you really need cash bridge.

It's amazing how Hive expands organically in the real world through strong communities. I think the communities are at the center of everything that happens around us and the right instrument to push things forward and into the world.

I also think developing countries benefit more from crypto than developed countries. The cost of living is far lower and it gives them more options because the fiat over there is generally not as stable. Not to mention, the transactions are way faster.

IF you really want to help the people at the bottom, convince the top 20 accounts to stop taking 50% of the rewards each day.
Those rewards come directly from the people at the bottom.
As more rshares are voted in the pool, those with the least get nothing.

The benefits that Hive could bring to Venezuela, where I live, are huge. Here it is not only the problem of the unbanked population, the problem is bigger because of inflation. And every day the economy is more dollarized although there is nothing formal in this sense. But the majority of the population does not have access to an account in hard currency (dollars or euros) and the bolivars are losing their purchasing power every day. Without going very far, in little more than a month the devaluation of the currency has been 100%. Here Hive could have a great impact with the HBD. In the past many people took refuge in cryptos, Dash was very popular for a while, but there comes into play the volatility, and the vast majority of the population is not financially educated to handle it. But Hive has the HBD. Here the key is how to onboard the people who could benefit from this in a simpler way.

On 2022, the work made in Venezuela was totally amazing, to the point of being able to use HBD as a means of livelihood to survive the impending economic crisis that only abated for a few months.

This year the projects will grow exponentially and Hive will be the bridge that will take us to fulfill these projects to maintain the massive diffusion in the best way, with thousands of testimonies and positive impacts of the people of our country.

I feel excited and anxious for everything we will experience this year, let's keep growing!

Hello @taskmaster4450
I love how you talk about how Hive will come to dominate developing countries!
These countries deserve the best. I am so happy about this happening now!
The future is bright even though it may not feel like it right now.
I am very happy about this fact of a solution to poverty.
Poverty is a number one global problem and must be erased from the earth.
I want to unbank at some point to. This is how I feel at this time.
Thank you for talking so positively about Hive and developing countries.
You are a breath of fresh air to listen to and love to read your positive
articles, @taskmaster4450
Thanks again for doing this.
