New Mobile App Coming To Hive
There was an announcement that was evidently a long time in the making.
It is a project I had not heard about yet was in development for a few years. The team was looking to launch it on Steem but, alas, they were caught up like everyone else.
Now it is going to be coming to Hive with the expected Phase 1 launch in June of this year.
@dapplr seeks to be an application that provides full usability with the Hive blockchain. It is going to integrate all the traditional features of Hive such as posting, upvoting, and commenting. At the same time, it also looks to add many of the functions that those who use Instagram are accustomed to.
One of the interesting features that caught my attention was this:
Messaging, Audio and Video calls - We are integrating tons of algorithms and 3rd-party services to help the users experience just like Instagram and even better. It will keep on improving as we move forward.
This would be a rather novel addition and move it one step closer to being on par with messenger application suck as Kik or Viber.
The intent is to be of original design, to provide the look and functionality of the commonly used mobile applications. Ease of use is something that is vital to attract the masses. It looks like this team is building the application with that idea in mind.
There are two phases to their road map. The first will be in June. After that, they are going to look to do things such as take their chat feature and make it available to any game or application that wants to integrate it.
To me, these are very interesting concepts. If that is pulled off, it will be interesting to see where that extends to.
The final feature I wanted to mention is the ability for users to change their skins. This helps individuals customize the look of their pages.

Great news, it is with apps like this, quite similar to what the masses are used to, that we can increase the user base of Hive.

wow, that would be potentially a game changer. Mass adaption won't happrn until we get apps with good and easy to use interfaces. It's a no brainer really. Looking forward to it and glad they switched to hive!
I agree completely. Ease of use is vital. Providing something people are familiar with is also key.

Could be. The more the merrier as they say. It is vital for applications to start outreach programs to draw in more users.
Two applications that are similar could have tremendous impact.
Finally a decent mobile app to get used to with some additional features.

When the team can't choose a decent name I wonder of their competence.
I wish them all good of course but the logo, brand, and name is the first thing to consider to attract new users.
I was just about to comment on this. I understand the intent of putting the letter “d” everywhere to promote decentralization but it is such an archaic way to promote things... it’s not sexy, not attractive and it evokes zero emotion. Additionally, this one seems particularly hard to pronounce!
But let’s not judge a book by its cover. It looks like a promising app that I will follow closely!

There was a really good startup name generator which could come up with fancily twisted words yet I can't find it now.

Lol dapp + tumblr I assume! It’s a normal start up thing take a name at r, io, ify or ly at end of random noun or adjective and you’re good to go
The problem again is perhaps with the new user registration. Hope it will be solved at the moment we need fast registration process like TikTok which took only a few seconds.

Very slick looking app, pleased to see lots of progress on Hive while I've been away :)
It looks like there will be no support from the hive lords.
Messaging, audio and video calls sound bold, but at the same time they are most vulnerable in the area of bandwidth and privacy.
Developers should rather try integrating with Telegram or Signal app instead.
How this app is going to attract users from the Instagram? Marketing strategy, that is clearly not set.
an app similar to IG on the hive will be great. and messaging a nice bonus.
