In this video I discuss the state of the #Play2Earn arena, specificially, Axie Infinity.

This is a game that took crypto by storm. It is the largest game in marketcap in blockchain gaming. There is a ton of revenue flowing through. With all that is taking place, you would think this is a long term winner.

Here we discuss how this one makes the mistake of most blockchain games. If we remove the tokenomics, what is left? That is the biggest question.

Nice assessment of the gaming part of crypto, I have been waiting for a blockbuster game to play. Splinterlands has made me very crypto wealthy so a more fun chalinging game would be awesome!

I agree with the last part, even though Splinterlands did not made me very crypto wealthy. More crypto games would still be good for everyone. For example something similar to League of Legends would be very good on the blockchain.

It is great to see you touching the @play2earn topic as we need more smart people looking at the space and understanding it. And always good to bring some new ways of looking at it and simply open the eyes for others. Splinterlands I think it thrived until now as they continue to develop new features and use cases within and outside the game.

Splinterlands is still thriving. Nowadays it is probably the biggest success on the Hive blockchain, even though the value of the daily quest rewards dropped over the years, new kinds of rewards has been added, such as the Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), Splintertalk (SPT), and the recently introduced Splintershards (SPS). Nowadays literally thousands of new players are coming every day. I expect the same, and even more in the future, as new functions/features and use cases being added, and Splinterlands becoming more and more popular.

You gotta have money coming in for it to go out. Simple facts on that. Goes for anything in this world though. As long as they continue to grow and evolve to generate revenues they wont have issues. I think Splinterlands should watch all of this closely and adapt. Paid sponsorships can be a way to bring in revenue along with a host of other methods and they should be implemented asap.

Summary:
In this video, Task discusses blockchain gaming, focusing specifically on Axie Infinity and the Play2Earn movement. He expresses concerns about the sustainability of Axie Infinity, which he believes operates on a model akin to a Ponzi scheme, relying heavily on new players to sustain the ecosystem. Task compares Axie Infinity to Splinterlands, highlighting the differences in their approaches to game development and tokenomics. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on the game itself rather than just the monetary rewards when evaluating blockchain games.

Detailed Article:
Task delves into the world of blockchain gaming, specifically addressing the Play2Earn movement and its poster child, Axie Infinity. He starts by acknowledging the immense success and wealth generated by Axie Infinity, surpassing many traditional gaming companies in terms of revenue. However, Task expresses skepticism about the sustainability of Axie Infinity, labeling its Play2Earn model as resembling a Ponzi scheme. He explains how the ecosystem relies on constant influx of new players to support existing participants, raising concerns about the long-term viability of this model.

Task contrasts Axie Infinity with Splinterlands, highlighting the latter's approach to game development and tokenomics. He praises Splinterlands for creating a game that is engaging and enjoyable without solely relying on monetary incentives. Task commends Splinterlands for continuously introducing new features and engaging the community, which contributes to the overall value of the ecosystem. He discusses how Splinterlands' token (SPS) incentivizes users and fosters community engagement, showcasing a more sustainable approach compared to Axie Infinity.

Furthermore, Task stresses the importance of evaluating blockchain games based on their intrinsic value and entertainment factor, rather than solely focusing on the monetary rewards. He poses critical questions about the sustainability of blockchain games if the player base stagnates and emphasizes the significance of creating games that users genuinely enjoy playing. Task advocates for a shift in perspective within the blockchain gaming industry, urging developers and players to prioritize the quality and appeal of games over the potential financial gains.

In conclusion, Task encourages viewers to scrutinize blockchain games beyond their monetary aspects, emphasizing the importance of creating engaging and sustainable gaming experiences. He cautions against getting swept up in the hype surrounding certain games and advises a more critical approach when evaluating the long-term viability of Play2Earn models in the blockchain gaming space.
