High Paced Technology: Moon Mining By Mid-Decade

Things are moving ahead very quickly.

Of late, I discussed how fast technology is moving and how the next 10-15 years will see our society completely change. Thus, we will look back on 2020 and not ever recognize it.

One of the situations I look at is how different things are compared to 1980. In the last 40 years, computerization changes society as we know it.

We are going to see a similar move over the next 15 years. In other words, what was once space age is now going to be a part of our lives.

Asteroid mining is something that was long discussed. So far, it is still pretty far out. Nevertheless, things could be changing.

While the moon is not quite an asteroid, it is a non-Earth body that we are seeking to conquer. A little over 50 years since we last visited, we are now looking at it to pull out valuable resources.

NASA believes that moon mining could be real by 2025.

A team found that the moon might be richer in raw materials than once thought. These include metals such as iron and titanium.

The researchers found a pattern in which larger and deeper craters have higher metal concentrations than smaller and shallower ones. Specifically, in craters approximately 1 to 3 miles wide, the dielectric constant or electrical property increased along with crater size. However, the electrical property remained constant for craters between three to 12 miles wide.

The idea of mining another body is something right out of the Sci-Fi films. As recently as a few years ago, this was nothing more than a pipedream. Many companies were raising money yet the possibility for it to become reality was not thought great by most in the mainstream.

Now, we are seeing that it can be a very real possibility. NASA, for one, is intent on beginning the process on the moon in a few years time.

This will likely open the door for more companies to follow. Many start ups have targeted asteroids with trillions of dollars in metals. NASA can provide a blueprint for others to copy.

One of the attractions to space mining is the pure value of the resources out there. One asteroid is estimated to contain more than a quadrillion dollars in rare materials.

Of course, the idea of mining something in space and bringing it back to Earth is rather preposterous. Instead, the interest is in providing jumping off points to other destinations. The materials could provide basic materials for construction or fuel for rockets.

While it is still very early in the process, it does seem that things are moving ahead rather quickly.

Space certainly is looking like our next frontier.

Wow.. Governments could mine more to the moon, but i think mining on the moon is not better maybe they will just leave it peacefully and untouchable
