Threadcasts: Leothreads Edge

Have you participated in a threadcast yet?

If not, this is something that you should get involved with. It is something that can really take Leothreads to new heights.

For those unaware, and might be wondering what a threadcast is, we have a way of posting information under one top line thread.

Here is what the most recent one for the upcoming Cryptomaniacs broadcast looks like.

This is the top line thread. Underneath all the interaction between the audience and those on the show can take place. It is a way of pulling engagement on chain.

Of course, the idea of a threadcast is that we tie it to some episode. This can be a sporting event, podcast, webinar, or anything where people are viewing the same content. Heck, it can even be a weekly television program.

Leothreads Edge

Some might say, so what. This can be done on Twitter or elsewhere. This isn't that impressive.

On its own, this could be correct. Here is where the decision has to be made to make this a legitimate part of the Leofinance UI. We have to highlight threadcasts so people are aware of them.

How can this be done?

To me, this starts with having a place on the front end dedicated to threadcasts. It is not enough to have a tag. This can get abused and cluttered. We know there are some people who use the same take regardless of what they are posting.

In other words, we require a place on the UI where people can see the upcoming threadcasts. My idea is to develop some type of scheduler. This is where people can go in, set up their threadcast with the allotted time, and others then can easily find it.

For example, if there is a game between the Cowboys and Eagles, this could be started and fans of the teams can enter it. The schedule will note the game starts are 4 PM (or whatever). This allows everyone to see what is taking place.

We could do this for any live broadcast. Many on Hive do live streams on either discord, Zoom, or Twitter Spaces. All of them should have a threadcast.

This is something that was utilized not only by the Leofinance AMA but we also see it each week with the CTT broadcast. Both usually get a couple hundred comments.

Two Way Engagement

For most broadcasts, it is one way. We have the people delivering the broadcast on air and everyone else listening. Many platforms took to adding a comment section such as YouTube did with its livestreams. This brings people together to share during the episode.

Of course, this is Web 2.0. We need to look at transitioning as much as we can to Web 3.0. For now, it is not possible to stream through Leofinance. What can be done, however, is pulling the commenting into LeoThreads.

Again, this is going to require a dedicated decision to make this part of the platform. It also has to be a focus of the Leofinance team.

Fortunately, the latter appears to be the case. While not directly pertaining to threadcasts, we were told there are going to be some enhancements to the comments. One is going to be an autoload feature. This will help to have threadcasts updating without having to refresh every few moments.

Another idea is to reverse the order of the threadcast so the newest appear on top. This is how many comment sections like Disqus works.

Engagement Is Key

Ultimately, the goal of LeoThreads is to increase engagement. Threadcasts do this centered around a specific broadcast. We saw a couple of ones during EPL matches top 600 comments. Considering there were only a handful of people involved, this was fairly impressive.

Threadcasts are a great way to bring people together and engage. When people like a particular topic, which stands to reason if they are watching the broadcast, then there is a common bond. Even if they see things differently, as in the case of people rooting for different teams in a match, there is a conversation piece.

Could this be done on Twitter? Most likely. Is it? Not that I can see.

Nevertheless, there is another major advantage to threadcasts on LeoThreads. It is a way for those involved in the show to reward their audience. We often had discussed the idea of being rewarded for watching a video or listening to a show. This effectively does that if people engage.

For example, it is common for the CTT guys to go through the threadcast for their show and upvote people who comment in it. This is a terrific way to reward those who are supporting your show. Khal does the same thing with the AMA.

Notice how much different this is as compared to livestream on YouTube and commenting there. Have you ever seen anyone in the audience rewarded? It is always people sending money to the content create (super chat I believe it is called).

While there is nothing wrong with this, this reverses the situation. Audience members can be rewarded for their engagement. This is what Web 3.0 does: it sets things on its ear.
