Polytechnic University Park

The last weekend in August was hot. The weather was perfect for going to the countryside, strolling along field paths, sitting on the river bank, perhaps even taking a swim... but I could vividly imagine where all those people who went to nature in a single rush would end up. It was easy to meet all these people in a crowded train, in a traffic jam on a side road, in line for a bottle of cold water... So I decided to spend the weekend differently.

The vast park of the Polytechnic University is located in the north of the city, twenty steps (literally) from the subway station. The new school year begins on the first of September. The students and professors are still gaining strength somewhere else (probably in the very same electric trains and traffic jams) and the park's alleys are rather deserted.

I hoped to admire the crowns of pine trees against the blue sky, to breathe in the fresh pine air, to sit on a bench by the fountain - and all my hopes came true. That's exactly how my walk turned out.

The main goal of my walk was the park, but the university buildings are also worthy of attention. The Polytechnic University was founded in the late 19th century. The complex of university buildings included the main building, chemical and mechanical buildings, dormitories for students, service buildings.

The main architectural style used in construction is neoclassicism, but the influence of the popular in these years Art Nouveau style is also felt. One of the most original buildings on the university campus, the Hydraulic Laboratory Building, is an Art Nouveau structure in the form of a medieval tower.

An unexpected bonus of the walk was the graffiti we found. I didn't immediately realize that the transformer boxes on the grounds had become landmarks: the graffiti wasn't always turned toward the paths. But after I guessed to scrutinize these transformer boxes from different angles, my walk became even more interesting. Unfortunately, there was one incident associated with this part of the walk that could have had some not-so-pleasant consequences for me.

I was looking for the best angle to view the drawing on one of the transformer booths and take a picture. To do this I had to turn off onto a narrow path that led me to a clearing of dense grass. When I returned to the wide path, I remembered the possible dangers of walking in the dense grass and examined my clothes carefully. I noticed a tick crawling through the fabric, looking for a vulnerable spot.

I immediately shook the tick back into the grass, but it took me a long time to calm down after this incident. I was walking in the city limits, the time of year is almost autumn, but I still have to be wary of a tick bite... It is very unpleasant. I think we need to bring back all the preventative measures to reduce the number of ticks in our area again.

Fortunately, that was the only unpleasant moment of the day. Everything else was great! On my way out of the park, I stopped at a nearby store to buy ice cream - creamy walnut walnut ice cream in a waffle cone. It was the perfect finishing touch.

Lovely walk! I like how you presented the buildings including the trees in the frame. Wise thinking on checking for ticks. That would have been an unpleasant one if you were bitten.

Congrats for being featured by @curangel!

The old park surrounding these buildings serves as a great backdrop and frame! Thank you so much!

I expected to see more people, but the park is almost deserted before the start of the school year. Thank you so much!
