50-400

50-400

For this post I am talking about ( yes I know its again I have done this a few times LOL)
my newest lens the Tamron 40-500MM lens which I am finding I make sure is in my camera bag.

Actually in my current camera bag its a bit of a squeeze, so when my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas I told her the model camera bag I wanted, and she agreed so I ordered it and do have a new camera bag that it will fit better into, but of course I have to wait till after Christmas to use it, which isn't a problem as I am not getting out taking photos much if at all at the moment.

These shots were taken recently while I was waiting for my Grand daughter to get out of school and I took a stroll down by the water.

This first shot taken at the widest range 50 MM and you can make out the Butlers flat Lighthouse and jus to the left off centre a fishing boat

Now for this shot I turned the camera to APS-C mode so even though I say 400mm in the description with APS-C mode it is actually 600mm and shows the lighthouse quite clearly

Butler Flats Light is a sparkplug lighthouse located in the outer harbor of New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the mouth of the Acushnet River.
It was built in 1898 by the United States Lighthouse Board, it is the only known caisson lighthouse designed by a marine architect. The light was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Butler Flats Light Station on June 15, 1987.

I read an article from 2016 that a private owner had bought it and wanted to make it into a Bnb, but not sure that ever came to be as I couldn't find anything else about that

This next shot is of the boat you may not have been able to see in the first shot a commercial fishing boat heading back into the port, taken at 400MM

And that’s all folks

I like lighthouses. I wish there were more near me. We do get some boats, though, on the Delaware River, but none as interesting as what you get to see. No fishing boats.

It's awesome that you're getting to make good use of that lens!

Wow, that definitely looks like a nice lens. The quality is quite good. If I ever get around to getting a proper camera, I will keep that brand in mind. My dad was going through a bunch of his old camera stuff the other day. I never really realized just how many lenses he had.

I love a zoom lens, although, I only have the 70-180mm, it still feels nice to "snipe" photos from a distance. Catching the off guard person or animal who doesn't really know you are photographing them.

I love the zoom! I need to get a longer lens to up my birding. I like the comparison photos. Maybe they will influence my wife... 😁

For birding i will use the 200-600 Mainly its a great lens for that, but the 50-400 is a lot cheaper and lighter so easier to carry around for most walks

That's an incredible zoom lens :) The lighthouse looks like you need a boat to get there?

and yes this lens is so versatile i will be using it a lot

That's an excellent lens, JJ, and I also would never leave my 100-400mm at home. It's best for such detail shots like the far away light house or a boat ... or birds 😀
I have never tried the APS-C mode , but I'll keep it in my mind for my next trip.
