Around Victory Park

Around Victory Park

A while I shared a post about a walk I took around a park here in New Bedford which is officially called Victory park but is known by many locals as Poor Mans farm

if you are wondering like I was about that name here's some history on it

I was intrigued how it got the name of the Poor Farm and looked it up and found

The Poor Farm dates back to 1828, when the then-town of New Bedford purchased 75 acres on Clarks Point for $4,700. In the coming years, the farm was developed into a complex including a poorhouse, a hospital for sick seamen, a workhouse for criminals who committed minor offenses and later a “pest house,” or hospital for people with contagious diseases.

Now its a small park with a pond and a warming house beside it, but for this walk I will share some images I took on another recent visit there where I focus on what's around the edges of the park

Starting with this beehive which I am guessing is in private property

The Morning i took these it was very grey and moody but I wanted to get some steps in and visited there, had to let the ISO creep up a bit due to the dull light at the time

Beside the hive they do have a warning letting you know its there and that big brother is watching ie its video monitored

They also have a little garden area, and then I saw this sign showings its a garden for children I think that's a real cool idea

its not a huge garden area, but good enough to teach children interested in learning how to garden, better they do that than spend all day glues to their mobile devices

This looks like a really cool area. That is interesting that the city choose to spend that money on so many services for the people. It could have been easy just to ship them off somewhere else.

This looks like such a lovely place to relax. I saw the green park bench and I just thought of how you could just sit there and get lost in your thoughts you know, surrounded by the evening breeze and all of that. Really nice.

A garden for children is a great idea! And in the last two weeks, I've come across 3 different people with bee hives. Makes me wonder if this is a growing trend to be bee keepers.
