Crane

crane

One day when I took a walk on the Harbor walk here in New Bedford
as I got near the end of it by the Cisco breweries Restaurant I noticed this crane which I thought was on land and wondered what the restaurant was adding to their outside area, so I snapped a shot of it from this view point

So I walked down from the raised walk path and decided to go and check it out closer, it was a moody dull kind of morning when I took this walk so it was cool to see something new and motivate me to walk a bit further and get more steps in
the still morning and long exposure shot of 20 seconds give a cool feel to the water.

and by the stage it became clear to me the crane wasnt on land at all

As you can see in the next photo it was on some sort of platform tied up to the pier at the back oof the Cisco breweries property.

now I am not sure exactly what it is for, I wondered if it was some sort of drilling platform with those long poles at the other end of the platform, but I am not sure that's right, so if anyone has any idea what it does I would love you to let me know

I like how the color of the platform of the crane stands out on the otherwise muted colors.

I would have loved to walk out on the pier and take a closer look and try to work out what it was, but they had it roped off, which I am now thinking i could probably have easily stepped over it, but perhaps I am to much into respecting where things are roped off lOL

Looking at these photos it looks like there are some sort of pulleys at the top of those poles, which only makes me more intrigued what it does.

Interesting photos. I love the pink calm water in the second photo. I am fascinated by things like the crane barge. Maybe those long poles are lowered into the seabed for support? or maybe they are used to extend the span of the crane? or maybe even pile drivers? 🤔

I'm thinking that the crane is just a crane, but I don't know what the poles on the barge are for...

Yes you right of course about the crane but still intrigued what the whole platform does

I tried to google similar images, but none of the poles had pulleys on them.

The long poles you noticed on the platform may be used to hold and stabilize the crane while it is in operation.
