Fort Tabor foggy and clear

Fort Tabor foggy and clear

For todays post I am going to share some shots from Different visits to Fort Tabor Park
some with it being quite foggy which was just a couple of days ago, and then similar views on nicer sunnier days I have visited there

Starting with a shot of Fort Rodman, on a day we had some nice warm color sin the sky at sunrise

And the fort just the other morning where the heavy fog we had gave quite a moody feel. now you may say the fog doesn't look that heavy, but the fog came rolling in quickly, literally a minute after I took this shot from this same viewpoint, I could barely see the fort.

A little bit about the Fort

The fort which was also known as the old Stone Fort, and the Fort at Clarks Point until 1898

Construction of the Fort started in 1857.
As built is had 72 cannons in three tiers, they had originally planned a fourth tier, but that was dropped to speed up the completion time for the fort

As I understand it the fort at different times had 12 Guns from 3 inch up to 8 inch that were active from around 1899 up to 1946

The guns were all scrapped by 1948, and the fort grounds became a Military reserve center, in the 1970's the reserve center closed and now the area is a public park.

Next up we have the pier in the park, standing out against the early morning's blues

Looks less impressive and strong on the foggy days we have had quite a few of recently

Last photo looks like an entirely different beach without the buildings and lights. Like a remote wilderness beach. My favorite photo today is the first pier shot with the lights in the dark and crisp reflections.

I thought the same the fog blocking off the road and buildings in the distance change the whole feel of the beach

Just imagine a good time alone in that fifth picture. Just to take a few minutes' walks while meditating. The place looks cool!

I actually walked at this park again this morning, was a lovely sunrise, after the sunrise I took a leisurely stroll which is my form of meditating :)

Yeah, that's exactly what am talking about that 'leisurely stroll'.

Especially for me in the early morning when very few if any people are about

All in its own good time my friend, no rush. I never edit any photos and just post how they come out originally, which might explain why they are never spectacular :)

If your camera or phone shoots in jpg mode, then it does some editing automatically when you take them and often it does a great job

I have been having fun with photography for decades now so I like to set my camera to shoot in RAW mode which means it does no editing and then I edit them as it suits me.

nothing wrong with either way of doing it, its all a matter of personal preference

That fort looks so cool! I'd love to be able to visit. Alas. I will be stuck with those forts closer to me.

Good morning @tattoodjay!

Awesome shots!!! the first photo is spectacular with the sun in the background.

From the other pictures I was struck by the amount of seaweed seen on the shore and the dense fog.

Big hug

Good morning and thank you,
Ohh yes a lot of seaweed washes up on the beaches here far more than I expected

I was at this spot this morning and caught a beautiful sunrise

If the photos look so beautiful, I can only imagine what it must be like to experience a sunrise or sunset there!

In my opinion, they are the two magical moments of the day that usually give us very nice postcards, those that are not easily erased from our retinas.

Fantastic shots! I would expect nothing less. It is interesting to think just how many forts there are around the country and just how useless they all are now. With the advent of modern warfare, it really just made them obsolete.

thanks so kind of you

indeed they are useless now with the advances in warfare, times have changed since these were built, they may be useless for sure but they are a good remnant of history and cool for photos

Such a contrasts between the photos, especially the fort ones.
Beautifully captured @tattoodjay. I like the first one. It almost looks completely different ( the building ) than the entire fort… just with the bright colours changing its appearance.

You know I love foggy weather, JJ, but the Fort Rodman looks best in the first photo in my eyes, maybe because I love sunrises and their colours too ☺️
The last shot is my favourite today - lovely calm and peaceful scene and it's foggy 😍
