Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I guess it was very creative I could slip this post into @marketfriday hosted by @dswigle I mean it is christmassy, and we all know she loves Christmas, but really it is nothing at all Market related and maybe my brain just isn't up to par today and I cant think of a way to spin it as a market Friday post.

But that's not to bad its just a Friday post and as she is busy and off here for a few days I don't feel to bad sharing these shots today and no taking part in market Friday as I normally do.

These are in a little park not to far from my house here in New Bedford called Clasky Common, which I will share another post of showing whats in this park, but for todays post as the title suggest I am focusing on the Christmas displays that were being setup as I walked through there a few days ago.

I have driven by this park many times, and always wanted to check it out, but our daughter in Law told us that there have been a few deaths in that park mostly drug over dose or drug related and my wife was not keen on me going there.

But I asked some other locals and they said they only know of two deaths there both overnight and drug over doses and they felt it was safe during the day, so without telling my wife I decided to pop there for a quick walk the other day.

there were people both running the electrical cables, and setting up fences to keep people away from the displays and I guess mess them up.

Here people are very cautious with warning signs, there are signs everywhere, I guess to reduce the chance of being sued if someone hurts themselves, and even here you may note the caution tape on the wires holding this display in place

As I understand it nowadays students from the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School which one of our Grandsons goes to electrical students assist with the setting up of the lights, but this plaque indicates a Mr Whitlow for many years led the effort to set up the Christmas lights

I'm sure this will look very Christmassy once they turn on the lights.
Our local Botanic Gardens were busy setting up what they call a Trail of Lights, when we visited there. I definitely want to get tickets to that.
Drug addiction ruins and takes so many lives, very sad!

Great to see community spirit like this. Many neighborhoods get a bad reputation but most people are still good out there. Glad you were able to get some photos.

That is really cool. It is fun that places do that. I know that we have a small town near where I work and the tree lighting ceremony in the park is always a big deal. The whole village basically shows up. We also have a park in the town where I grew up that has nefarious issues. It's fine during the day, but at night we used to hear all the police calls to it on the police scanner.

The city I was in before was big for events all year the Christmas ones were especially popular

I used to listen to a police scanner when I was in NY but stopped as if my wife was listening in she would freak out lol

We always grew up with one in our houses, sot it is kind of second nature to me. I sometimes miss it now that I don't have one in my own house. Every now and then my wife loads the site on her phone and listens.

Such a great place to visit, and especially take kids. It's a shame that it was allowed to become so dangerous :( ... It should look nice with the lights on too, hopefully nobody will vandalize it. Are there many places one shouldn't walk at night there?

New memories being made, remember learning so much about New York City when you worked and photographed the shop displays. This is awesome in a totally different way and feeling to the spirit of Christmas.

Remembering the person who started this display up to brighten up a park a lovely touch!

!LUV to both yourself and Lulu, thanks for sharing.
