Mono Monday the Swing Bridge

Mono Monday the Swing Bridge

Keeping with my habit of recent its Monday so time for some Mono edits, this week I am sharing some shots of the Swing Bridge between New Bedford and Fairhaven

I have shared a post with color shots of the bridge previously if you want to check it out it is here

Starting with a shot walking towards the Swing Truss portion of the bridge

Between New Bedford and Fairhaven there are actually three bridges, but the focus on this post is the Swing Truss Bridge and it was built between 1897 and 1899 and includes a 283.2 foot long swing truss which with its age and style I thought was a good candidate for some mono shots

Here I am walking over the portion of the bridge that swings open to allow ships and boats to head out, mostly fishing boats both commercial and private

Often when I do mono edits I do a variety of tones, but for this bridge I felt the shots I share here work better in straight Black and white or sepia edits
Looking along the side of the bridge when it is open for vehicle traffic.

And from the same point when the swing truss is open for boats to head in and out, and meanwhile traffic builds up on the road waiting for it to close again, and I am sure many get frustrated gettign caught when the road is closed as the bridge opens, but they do have scheduled time when it opens so I now know to go another way to Fairhaven if on the hour.

And a last shot right beside the bridge

And that’s all folks

Those black and white photos are adding a very nice touch to the post. It feels like as if they would be from the previous century.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings from Hungary.

Those are pretty fantastic, and I think presenting those in mono was a great choice. That architecture is really neat!

The first time I came across a moving bridge was a draw bridge in Pittsburgh. I was too amazed to see that it actually worked to be upset by being caught in traffic.

That’s exactly how I have felt when I have been caught as it opened amazed by the design and technology of the time it was built I was happily watching it

My wife not so much kept asking how long will it take lol

I though mono fir these gave a timeless feel
Have a great day

Those really do have a historic feel to them. I wonder if that bridge will be there in another hundred years?

True enough my problem is with damaged lungs it’s breathing in the cold air that gets to me
I have plenty of warm clothes and will get out now and again

Have you tried out any of the specialized ski masks that are supposed to warm up the air you breathe?

Swing bridges are so cool, except when you get caught in them! Impressive looking with the variety of angles showing off its features, doing them in mono gives it an absolutely ageless appearance. The details are even more enhanced in mono! Thanks for showing it off! Have a great day!

I am fascinated by bridges especially ones that open up so I never get frustrated being caught as it opens

Lulu on the other hand well let’s stop there lol

I think mono works especially well for architectural details as you say giving a timeless feel

Those are great mono shots, @tattoodjay! Bridges are so inherently interesting, with their spans and supports and trusses. It must be incredibly gratifying to design and build one.

Always when I see your Mono Monday post I think "wow, is it already Monday again - time is flying so fast".

I am liking monochrome photos more and more, and these are all cool images. The first photo is my favourite today.
I think these photos wouldn't look as good in colour - the black & white and especially the sepia suits best for such historical things in my eyes ... and the sky looks much better too ☺️

Yeah weeks fly by don’t they

I do think shits like these if bridges and old buildings look so much better in mono making focus on the details

Amazing how mono editing takes those photos back a century and makes them look like something out of an archives.

Find those swing bridges fascinating to watch not a common sight here. Nicely captured showcasing grand old steel with rivets in second photograph, sure were built to last!

Thanks I find it fascinating to watch when it opens and closes maybe because I am seldom in a rush these days I never get bothered if I get caught on the times it opens and have to wait fir it to open and close before continuing on I am happy enough watching it

We have suspension bridges but no swing bridges I know of, only ever seen these on my travels overseas, totally loved watching them swing open and closed again. Then I am known to count how many trucks are pulled by train engines.... 😄

LOL I thought i was the only one when I see a long train coming count how many wagons on it LOL Suspension bridges are awesome to see also

Oh boy, obviously both caught the same kind of crazy with counting, very therapeutic for some strange reason, or is it an obsession?
