Pond at Buttonwood Park

Pond at Buttonwood Park

Returning to buttonwood Park for this post and again I am by the water, my last post from in the park was around a small pond, this is a larger pond in the park, you can park right beside it so its very easy to access and very popular, often I see people walking the path by it.

I did walk there this morning, when I left home there was only a light fog and I thought it might clear, but I got it wrong the fog only got thicker for my hour and a half walk, and didnt get many photos, I did get one I will share at the end of the post to show how foggy it was.

For this visit I didn't stay on the footpath beside the roads and separated partially from the Lake Or pond, I have seen it to refereed to as both online, but instead walked right by the pond, avoiding the trail of droppings everywhere, left by the geese.

Buttonwood Park is called by some the “crown jewel” of New Bedford’s parks. It’s the largest and most visited public park in the city.
It is 97 Acres and an Oasis of nature with gardens, a pond, an arboretum, walking paths, a playground, a zoo, and several ball fields and basketball courts.

It was planned by Charles Eliot in the 1890s and opened in 1894.
Looking across the water to what is called the Warming house.

and a closer in shot of the Buttonwood Park warming house, I looked online with no success so I have no idea why it is called a warming house or for that matter what a warming house is.
I guess just on the name its a house thats warm inside but not sure of its purpose, I guess In Winter at some stage it may have been somewhere people could go to warm up.
On this mornings walk, I checked this building out and it is currently used as a senior Center

A little bit too small and no electricity, otherwise I would love to live on this island 😁
The other pond looked somehow friendlier to me, because it was smaller and more overgrown, what I love, but the water lilies give this one a nice touch which I also like a lot 😊

Well, my tent might fit, but if I roll around in my sleep I might fall into the water 🤣
