A few cool statues and art pieces around the city

I know of recent I have been sharing a lot of the historic buildings around the city, with the early sunrise, I have had time to explore some of the city after there is more light as the sunrises, before heading home.
But will take a break from that today to share some sculptures and art around the city that I have captured recently.

That said, I guess this first one is both a statue and historic :)

This is on the Barnard Monument here in New Bedford. Let me tell you a little about it.

The Barnard Memorial (or Barnard Monument) is a historic 1914 granite and bronze statue located in a traffic circle inside Buttonwood Park in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

It was sculpted by George J. Zolnay, it honors both the city's whaling heritage and the immigrant mill workers who built its textile industry.

The monument was a gift to the city from George D. Barnard, a St. Louis businessman who was born in New Bedford. At its base are seafaring figures, while the top, which I show here, is of the pedestal, featuring a blacksmith standing over a gear, symbolizing the transition from the whaling era to the manufacturing boom.

This next statue is on Pope's Island, and I see it often when I visit there, but for most of the year I leave too early before there is enough light to get an OK photo of it.

This statue honors Prince Henry the Navigator, a key figure in the Age of Discovery

It was built in 1994, a gift to the city from the Prince Henry Society of New Bedford and the Portuguese government.

Prince Henry the Navigator (1394–1460) was a Portuguese royal who some say spearheaded the European Age of Discovery. He never sailed himself, but he did sponsor expeditions along the West African coast and gathered expert mapmakers and scientists to advance navigation.

This next piece is in the grounds of the Haskel Gardens and is titled Mooring Buoy no.1 and was created in 2017 by Alexander Jardin

This large steel globe sculpture was built utilizing repurposed commercial maritime equipment
