Daily Portrait - Maya

Daily portraiture of Maya. This photo was taken last year. Maya is participating for our local pageant called the Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan. She represent one of our district here in Sabah which is Kota Kinabalu. This was her shoot for a composite card and for her portfolios. She was a newbie on the pageant industry and this was her first time participating on the pageant.

Her manager, Benzie contacted me for a portrait in the studio. Luckily during this time most of the studio were open for outside photographer. I went to rent a studio with the minimum equipment requirement and managed to get one nearby my place. I was hoping to get a nice beauty dish in the studio but there was none. So I had to improvise the studio setup.

Meet Maya. She is a beautiful and a happy go lucky girl. She just finished her studying during the time this photo was taken. She had a big eyes with a bright brown iris color. At first I thought she was wearing a contact lens but she was not.

During this photo session I am using two lighting setup. The main light as you can see on her left. A 60cm octa softbox mounted at a Godox 400w without any grid. The second light for the rim light was placed on her left side, it was the Godox 250W mounted with a 60cm by 90cm rectangle softbox without any grid.

After a few shoot for her warm up I ask her to smile to the camera as I took her photo. This photo turns out good. She had a very beautiful smile. It made a lot of different in a photo after she started to smile. Her photo already bring a lot of joy. She was very happy after I showed her the photo from my camera screen display.

This third photo I changed my camera setup to a normal setting that I always use. The challenge on this photo session was to create a shadow on her face and to do contouring with shadows. Her face color was very light and the makeup applied to her had bright color too. As she had a round face it made me a little bit hard to create shadows that I always do. But still the result was not bad in my opinion.
