MONOMAD CHALLENGE : Portraiture of Abby.

This is my entry for the daily #monomad challenge hosted and curated by @monochromes.

Hello and good day to everyone in this black and white community. I hope you guys are all doing great.

Today I want to share another black and white portraiture series that I took in a studio few weeks ago.

This was the studio setup that I used during the photo session

Two lighting setup, as you can see the space in the studio is very limited. I can only use the studio and put the subject near the white wall in front of me.

As for the lighting setup, on the right I used the 60cm by 90cm rectangle softbox with the Godox SK400 as the main light. On the left side I used the black umbrella with silver reflector on the inside and with the same strobe the Godox SK400 as my fill and rim light. The umbrella was used to light the white background and at the same time used to create a rim light to the subject from the back and left side.

I took several minute to get the correct setting for the light and the camera, and the result was great for me.

Meet Abby, she is a very happy go lucky person. She can easily blend into any crowd and she is an energetic person. She is also a very disciplined person and very punctual in everything she do.

I bring the top hat and the black glasses as a props and ask her to do his own free poses. The only challenge for me during this photoshoot was to get the expression that I want from her. FYI this was the first time for both of us having an actual photoshoot in a studio. So we had to do some ice breaking.

After trying several pose and some face expression that she never done before, I finally get the expression that I want.

She was used to do a smiling face. Before this, she went and joined some beauty pageant and she never been into a photoshoot except for the beauty pageant itself. A happy and smiling face is a must for a beauty pageant and she was used to make those kind of face expression.

This was her normal face, she had a big eyes and it took me some time to guide her to make her eyes a little bit smaller. Luckily she is very cooperative and willing to learn. At first a lot of awkward photos taken, because the expression that I ask her to do was never been done by her before.

But I am very impressed by her because of how fast she can adapt and adjust her pose with the expression that I want for my photo.

This was one of my favorite capture of her. A simple pose and looking into the camera with a very sharp look, this photo brings a lot of emotions and story behind it.

This last photo was taken just after I called her during her pose. Its just a perfect headshot.
