MONOMAD CHALLENGE : Portraiture of Zam Osman with "Tanjak" ENG - MY

Hello everyone here in Black and White community. I hope you guys are all doing great today. Today I am going to share some black and white portraiture of Zam Osman. A studio photoshoot session.

Hello semua di sini dalam komuniti Black and white. Saya harap anda semua berada dalam keadaan sihat hari ini. Hari ini saya akan berkongsi beberapa potret hitam putih Zam Osman. Sesi photoshoot studio.

This is the lighting setup that I used for my photoshoot session. Two lighting was aimed to the white background to create some rim lighting to the subject and creating a bright white background.

There is no grid on the softbox, so I improvise and bouncing the light from the white background to make a softer rim lighting rather than putting it directly to the body.

Ini adalah persediaan pencahayaan yang saya gunakan untuk sesi pemotretan saya. Dua pencahayaan ditujukan kepada latar belakang putih untuk mencipta beberapa pencahayaan rim kepada subjek dan mencipta latar belakang putih terang.

Tiada grid pada softbox, jadi saya membuat improvisasi dan memantulkan cahaya dari latar belakang putih untuk membuat pencahayaan rim yang lebih lembut daripada meletakkannya terus ke badan.

Tanjak is the cloth headgear worn by Zam Osman. It has many variation on how to make the folding shape and it has its own meaning. This kind of headgear usually worn by the people in peninsular Malaysia.

Tanjak ialah kain penutup kepala yang dipakai oleh Zam Osman. Ia mempunyai banyak variasi tentang cara membuat bentuk lipatan dan ia mempunyai makna tersendiri. Penutup kepala sebegini lazimnya dipakai oleh masyarakat di semenanjung Malaysia.

Its a little bit hard to create the rim lighting on his body due to the fabric used on his clothing. More than 50% of the light was absorbed by the fabric.

Agak sukar untuk mencipta pencahayaan rim pada badannya kerana fabrik yang digunakan pada pakaiannya. Lebih daripada 50% cahaya diserap oleh fabrik.

I focused more on the face lighting for this shoot. I made some shadow on the face to make it more dramatic and display Zam's face shape and contour.

Saya lebih fokus pada pencahayaan muka untuk penggambaran ini. Saya membuat sedikit bayang pada muka Zam untuk menjadikannya lebih dramatik dan memaparkan bentuk dan kontur muka Zam.

I had some issue during this photoshoot session. One is the lighting was not evenly distributed on the white background especially on the bottom part. I had to adjust the light strength output and the softbox position until I had it somehow balanced from the top to bottom of the background.

Saya mempunyai beberapa masalah semasa sesi pemotretan ini. Salah satunya ialah pencahayaan tidak sekata pada latar belakang putih terutamanya di bahagian bawah. Saya terpaksa melaraskan output kekuatan cahaya dan kedudukan softbox sehingga saya mempunyai pencahayaan yang seimbang dari bahagian atas ke bawah latar belakang.

It was hard to balance the lighting due to the size of the softbox being used that time. It was only around 90cm by 90cm softbox. Some photo may have the different contrast due to the lighting position had been changed.

Sukar untuk mengimbangi pencahayaan kerana saiz kotak lembut yang digunakan pada masa itu. Ia hanya sekitar 90cm kali 90cm kotak lembut. Sesetengah foto mungkin mempunyai kontras yang berbeza kerana kedudukan pencahayaan yang telah ditukar.

Still I tried to keep the lighting to the face same the entire photoshoot.

Namun saya cuba memastikan pencahayaan pada muka adalah sama sepanjang pemotretan berlangsung.
