Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!

The Slipping One!

So we've got another one, although I do think this might be a quicky to say the least!

The client's complaint is that he drove and then all of a sudden the pickup just bursted in the rev counter and well he had no more power left!

Seems a bit odd but let's get into it! We already have some clue as to what might be the problem!

Listen To The Complaint.

A customers complaint can really give you a lot of what is actually wrong, then go and drive the vehicle with the client if it is in a driveable state.

So what it boiled down to is the converter or the pump, something broke in one of them or perhaps in both of them, it might be very serious or it might be minor.

Now firstly I have to try to get this converter out of there! It's jammed in quite nicely there! Nothing that a pry bar and a perfectly placed angle can't sort out!

Dig Deeper.

Okay so this is the problem area! We need to check both the converter and the pump of the transmission.

It's nice working with such clean parts, besides the oil that it leaked out, but that really isn't any problem at all though!

The bulk of the work will likely be on the side of the pump!

Luck Or Knowledge.

This client is either very lucky or he really just stopped the vehicle the moment it gave trouble!

The torque converter isn't that bad at all, a light polish of some fine grit... Something like 800 should do the trick here!

At-least he can save a few pounds on that one!

Notice the lines? The longer he drove the deeper those grooves would have been!

The Bush Took A Knocking.

Now this might be hard to see but the bush on the inside isn't really that worn and that might be why the converter didn't get as much damage as I thought it would.

Instead the bush seized up on the inside and turn on the outer ring, this caused the entire pump to get worn out. When touching the bush you can feel it moves inside its housing. Not good at all.

This guy will need an entire pump rebuild, still very small compared to what it could have been!

For Safety.

We will be needing to open this one up as well! Just to clean it out!

I doubt anything could have broken in there but with all the metal shavings going about it would be unwise not to clean it!

Busy day cracked open!

I don't know how you do it there but here they do an oil drain and change the filter as a precaution, here in Venezuela they have a myth that if you replace the oil in the automatic transmissions they get damaged lol

Laughs!!!! I do get your point though I really do 😅 we have a thing here where people think that if you change the oil it will be fixed 🤣😅

A tip, automatic transmissions should be idling when leveling the oil.
