A Lighthouse in the Pink Dark Skies (mixed painting)

With my new room setup, it's much easier for me to do some artworks during my break time from work. Lately, my passion for drawing and painting has been ignited that ever before. I have seen a lot of amazing artworks in the community and it made me want to improve myself in this craft as well. So, I'm trying my best to insert drawing, painting or just quick sketches in my day to day life.

Yesterday, as I laid my materials on my small table on my bed, I was imagining a something but I couldn't really think of anything except that I want it to be pink. Maybe a cotton candy? or something happy? but I thought, I'm not that happy to create such colors, yet. haha So, I just played with some colors for the background and eventually, I ended up with this artwork.

Let's continue talking as I show you some of the process. To start with, let's prepare the materials. I used my A5 watercolor pad for this artwork.

I also prepared some watercolor tubes (which I mainly used for this), solid watercolor, paintbrushes and I have some markers and pens readied as well. At this point, I still didn't know what to do except for the background. Is it weird?

I squeezed some colors out from the tubes. I used darker ones at the bottom and some lighter ones above. I didn't have pink, so I placed some red and white paint on top.

This was the result of the blended colors, but I thought the colors were too strong for me. I wanted to mellow it down, so I decided to squeeze in more white on the whole page.

I left it to dry since I also had to work. I had a couple classes before I checked the piece. When I saw it, I thought.. nope! It's still too dark! I need more white. Unfortunately, I ran out of white watercolor from the tube, so took a syringe and took some white paint from the acrylic paint I have.

Yep... this is much better, I thought. At this point, I still don't know what to paint. lol I was thinking of just adding clouds or stars like another galaxy type of painting, but then I changed my mind. I thought, the pinkish part would be the sky and the purple part would be the ocean. I'd need to make a silhouette of some scenery that would fit having a pinking sky, and so I finally decided on this.

I used black markers for the silhouette of these rocks and island as well as the lighthouse and other structures.

Then, I used some white and yellow solid watercolors for the light which is coming from the lighthouse. Then, using the same material but with blue and white, I added some wave effects on the rocks and island.

Then, using some white pen, I placed some highlights and more details on everything on the artwork. I love white pens!!! The one I'm using is just a freebie when I bought the markers. I'm definitely going to buy more of this since it's really useful for highlighting and detailing.

Lastly, I took out the tapes and added my username and signature on the artwork. It's not bad for something unplanned. haha Sometimes, there are colors that appear on my mind and I wanted to paint them but I usually end up not knowing what to paint until the last minute. Anyway, here's a selfie together with the artwork.

I finished the artwork a few minutes before my next class, so I had to put it down to prepare for work again. haha It was a nice way to spend my break time from work, indeed. It's relaxing in some way and it could take my mind off other stuff.

I hope you enjoyed this artwork and post as much as I enjoyed making it. See you around! (^^,)/
