Ahiru no Sora (anime and manga): Deserves More Recognition... <3

I recently just caught up with the latest chapter of Ahiru no Sora and I am more than excited and full of anticipation for the anime version. So far, the anime has 50 episodes the last of which was aired around September of 2020. Since then, there hasn't been any announcement.

I've read some forums saying that it's unlikely to have a second season because of the poor reception of the anime and the mangaka allegedly didn't like the animated version. I don't know how true that is, but I actually love both the anime and the manga version. But then again, I may be biased because I love sports anime.

Anyway, let's talk about it...

The story is about Sora Kurumatani who despite his short stature possesses an undeniably unwavering love for basketball. He has been practicing since he was a young boy given that his mom used to play the sport as well.

In order to keep his promise with his mom, he became a member of the basketball club at Kuzuryuu High School in order to compete in tournaments, however he faced yet another problem.

The so-called basketball club at this school was nothing but a bunch of punks doing everything except basketball. The have no interest in the sport at all. Sora didn't give up though... He later found out that the twin brothers, Chiaki and Momoharu were actually experienced with basketball, but have both lost their drive and motivation to play due to some personal reasons.

With sheer determination and persistence to revive the basketball team, Sora challenged them to play basketball which ended them being overwhelmed by Sora's impressive skills. Looking at this tiny boy re-ignited their passion to once again play the sport.

Together, they struggled, improved, fought together... and each other. It was chaotic, but they're doing everything they can one step at a time. <3

Aside from me being a sports anime otaku, I enjoyed it for its plot. I've watched several basketball anime like Slam Dunk, Kuroko no Basuke, Buzzer Beat, Dear Boys, etc... but Ahiru no Sora has its own charm as well.

The games are exciting and sometimes frustrating, but the characters' life stories are really well-made. There are times when you'd cry, laugh and fall in love. It's more of a basketball drama, especially at the earlier episodes. Great character developments are also present in the series which is a huge plus for me.

If the things written in some forums related to the author disliking the animated version, I wouldn't really understand why. I've read the manga before watching the anime, but I enjoyed both. The anime followed the manga religiously, so I don't really get it.

I still hope for a second season to be available someday because the upcoming games (as I've read from the manga) are super exciting. I need the adrenaline! And ohh... the basketball in this anime or manga is realistic, so if you're into basketball, you can relate.

For now, I'd continue to follow the manga and enjoy it to my heart's content! Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

I am glad to know that this anime has only 50 episodes probably I should watch it as well as it seems a motivational story and I love the phrase written in that image (在存の意義を示めせ) it means show the goal or mean of your life Well I'm not good in Japanese language thanks for sharing.

It sure is motivational in some way. Each character is unique and is dealing with their own challenges in life that they're trying to overcome. Basketball somehow became a way of life for them. :)

I have never watched a basketball anime since Slam Dunk. I think this is the time to start again.

I think I have seen this style of drawing or this anime somewhere, it sounds interesting and most of all sports anime that do not have so to speak some kind of power for example as Slam dunk that more than all are real basketball moves, and I do not understand if this well adapted to manga because the author will not have liked? because usually people do not like when they leave the manga most of all when they make drastic changes. Good post <3

I also don't know why the mangaka was said to not like the anime version... the anime really followed the manga. Anyway, if they don't continue the anime version, the manga is available. :) The following chapters are really getting more and more exciting.

Hello... yesterday i was going to comment and i got distracted. on sunday i remembered you, because i was looking for anime to watch and as you had recommended Haikyuu! well i looked for it and when i was going to watch it, the electricity went out and well... i couldn't watch it hahahaha it was sad.

Speaking of your post, it's annoying when a series is good and because of a minority, they leave it aside, it happens to me with anime (I do not remember their names) that has a lot for the second season and never comes out, as well as anime that are a disaster and take as 5 season, I do not understand this world of anime hahahaha

Hahaha... hey!!! No worries... I wasn't online for the past days, too... Got busy with life, but I'm back again.. hahaha No pressure and just watch on your own pace. :)

I really agree with that. There are a lot of interesting anime that didn't have a second season... or took a very long time to have one, that I already forgot the story, so I had to watch from the beginning. I don't mind rewatching stuff, though... :D
