ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #49: The Beauty Of Bamboo <3

I almost missed the deadline... but good thing I still have less than a day left. I was supposed to just chill today and write my blog during my break time tomorrow, but I didn't want to procrastinate. Congratulations to me... lol

Anyway, this is my entry for this week's ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #49 which is entitled, "The Beauty of Bamboo".

Oops... Sorry, we don't have any bamboo around my place, but don't you think this plant looks like one?? Well, it's understandable... Let me show you the whole plant. <3

It's a kind of Chinese bamboo as we call it in the Philippines! It's considered a lucky plant, especially when the flowers blossom. We've had this for almost ten years and it has only blossomed a couple of times. It's pretty... <3

Anyway, going back to the main topic of this challenge.

How is bamboo used in our community?

Well, aside from the fence you see in the background of my Chinese bamboo photo earlier, our store is mostly made of bamboo. Let me show you some pictures.

This is the back and side of our store. You may notice a white plywood as well... we sometimes use it for watching movies when we use the mini projector outside the house. :) That's the reason why it's white unlike the bamboo which are painted blue.

This is the other side of the store. Papa usually stays here. Since it's made of bamboo, it isn't very hot inside compared other materials.

The front looks like this. It's basically our fence on this side, but we made it in a way that we could open and close it easily for our store and our ATM. ATM stands for Automatic Tubig (Water) Machine.

When it's closed, it would look like a normal fence. Papa wanted to paint the fence for the store chocolate brown just like the plant table last time, but we ran out of paint, so he just left it like that. Also, papa is my model. hahaha

A couple meters away from our house, I also saw this chicken coop made of bamboo. This is our neighbor's. They have some chicken and ducks... I believe if I went to my other neighbors' houses, I'd see more stuff like this. There's a duck enclosure near the well a few blocks away, but I didn't go there... sorry~ haha

We did some gardening and cleanup earlier in the community garden as well... and as you may notice, the fence surrounding our garden is also made of bamboo. I'll make a garden update post next time. ;)

Lastly, the neighbor who lives near the community garden also did a house extension recently, and yes... it's also made of bamboo. Their small garden is also very pretty. Recently, they gave us some garlic plants for the community garden. So kind... <3

All in all, bamboo is indeed pretty useful. There are various ways to use it... also bamboo shoots are also very yummy!

The one on the left is called Ngohiong while the other one is Siomai. One of Ngohiong's ingredients is bamboo shoots or dabong. When I was in university, I used to eat these two a lot because they were cheap and delicious. hahah

That's it for my entry. Thanks a bunch for checking this out! :) Have a great one! ^^

All the uses are creative, in fact we have cut bamboo similar to your fence style and are preparing to use it soon, but I don't know for what. I really love your family's little store, and the water machine makes me wish there services like this in small villages in Cambodia because plastic waste is such a problem.

Ohh... that's good to know. It'll look pretty... whatever you're planning on using it for. :)
It's not that eco-friendly when people use plastic in getting water, but most of our neighbors or customers use their water bottles or pitcher from home. :)
