It was literally a concert performed by not just one but three anime idol groups and it was surprisingly amazing!

Last night, mama and I watched this animated film which is entitled Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love Kingdom. For the past weeks we have been watching (in my case, re-watching) the animated series of Uta no Prince-sama. There were four seasons in total and in addition, we have this movie that I'm going to talk about today. Before we delve into the movie, let me talk about the series first.

Uta no Prince-sama, if translated to English is Prince of Songs. Basically, it's a story of aspiring idols who were going to a music academy (in the first season) and their roller coaster ride-like life as idols (three other seasons). The main group called STARISH crossed paths and became a unit because of Haruka Nanami who is a very passionate composer from the same academy. Nanami played a huge role in their career and personal lives in all four seasons.

It's an anime with lots beautiful music and amazing performances. It also focused on each character's backgrounds and life outside of being an idol.

The idol group STARISH is composed of seven idols namely:

  • Shinomiya
  • Tokiya
  • Aijima
  • Ren
  • Ittoki
  • Syo
  • Hijirikawa

Have you noticed the first letters of their names? They all have different personalities but their voices harmonize pretty well.

In addition to STARISH, we also have QUARTET NIGHT who are actually their seniors from the same talent agency. They were introduced in the second season and served as an inspiration and a great rival for STARISH. They're Reiji, Ai, Ranmaru and Camus. They all have strong contrasting personalities that they often have internal problems, but eventually, they also found answers and ways to evolve as a united group.

Introduced in the third season, we have a group called HEAVENS which belong to a rival agency. They also have seven members. However, they were originally a 3-member group. They were somehow transformed to a 7-member group to rival STARISH. haha The names of the members also create their idol group name.

  • Hyuga
  • Eiichi
  • Amakusa
  • Van
  • Eiji
  • Nagi
  • Sumeragi

They're very competitive and they made the rivalry even more interesting. Their songs are amazing, too! They had several projects together with the other agency and one of them is the concert shown in the movie.

As I've mentioned above, the movie was literally a cross-agency concert of the three groups. I love Japanese idols and I've watched several of their concerts on DVD and this movie definitely gave me the same feels. It's full of wonderful music and performances that would truly capture the hearts of the audience.

The effects were amazing... magical even! Some scenes reminded me of the Jpop idol group's concert I've watched in the past. It's awesome and the MC parts were really entertaining as well. The movie would be much better enjoyed if you have watched the previous series, but I believe even if you haven't watched any of the series, you can still enjoy the music and performances.

I personally enjoyed it! I love this movie to bits. I think it's around an hour and 20 minutes but I wanted more! haha Also, the music or songs they performed in the concert are new. They even had several sub-groups performing, so it really gave you that concert feels.

Each performance has its own concepts in accordance with the message of the song they performed. I may be biased since I love Japanese music and idols, but it was really entertaining to watch. My mama also commented the same. It was as if we were watching a real concert but with better effects. haha

If you're into Jpop and idol groups, I highly recommend this movie. Better if you watch the series so you can relate to the MC part more. Regardless, you'd get to enjoy an hour of entertainment and marvelous music. <3

To end this post, I'd like to share this video containing clips of the performances in the concert. The songs, the costumes, the effects, the crowd... everything was amazing!!! T_T I hope you enjoy it as much as I and my mama did. <3 See you around!

I will look for it to see it. If it has a lot of music, I might like it.

OMG, back to that time, when I was in high school, my older sister really loved this series and she played their song every time in her car.

And I don't like Cecil's voice.

Yes... the first season started in 2011. I was in Uni back then... hahaha xD The movie was released in 2019.. :)

Cecil's voice is okay... but I'm Mamo-chan stan, so I love Tokiya's voice the most... and Ranmaru from Quartet Night. :)
