Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness: A Fable that leaves hearts pounding.

I love fables, be it written or oral but find it more delightful once it takes on a performance aspect, where I have to feed my eyes as colorful, thrilling and humorous events unfold.

When animals play the roles of humans, it thrills me to watch as I'm more interested when animals play the roles of humans than when humans play these roles. There's a reason though and that is because there's no boundaries to how far they can go, they make use of more supernatural elements than can be seen in the real world.

Plot (more of a teaser)

The film follows the quest for courage as the protagonist Chickenhare's destiny to become an adventurer like his father the King is tested when his evil, greedy Uncle frees himself from the dungeon and journey's to get the shadowy specter of the Hamster of Darkness so as to overthrow his brother and take over the kingdom.

Chickenhare possessed courage and zeal for adventure but had a weakness which stood as a huge barricade in his way of success. He hated his looks and wished to be normal. He wished to either be a Chicken or a Hare. He was mostly Hare but had chicken characteristics which he mostly hid to avoid being mocked by others.

On the day his uncle skillfully freed himself and journeyed to the frosty mountains in a bid to get the specter, Chickenhare has to prove beyond doubt to everyone including his father, Peter, that he's worth being called an adventurer plus his Uncle, Lapin, was able to get out of prison because of his desperation to find the scepter(Chickenhare's desperation). He had to fix his own mess by learning to love himself and also with the help of two trusty animal friends.

My Rating:

First things first, I'd say the film is aptly named. The title doesn't really sell out the whole idea of the film but definitely suits the film well.

I also admire Chickenhare's bravery. His love for adventure and books makes me rate it 7/10 because I find it compelling as an adult to follow my dreams, read more, and love myself. Imagining how a child, always ready to mimic actions, would watch it and be inspired to embrace adventure and self-discovery adds another layer of charm to the film.

It also beckons viewers into a whimsical world where heroes and mysterious adversaries collide in a tale that is both charming and suspenseful. Overall, it's strongly recommended. Netflix did a good job.

PS: it was released in February of 2022.
