Confessions Of Book Collector

I think we all like collecting things. Maybe shells, mugs, kitchen items and showcasing them in some pretty corner of our houses but it's kinda different with me. I admire people who collect stuff, I mean waking up to check on the things you've collected and seeing them safe and very intact is exciting.

Well, I love all the items listed above and would like to collect them when I have my dream kitchen home. For now, for forever, the one thing that'll be top tier in my collection of things will be books. Romance novels, gothic novels, psychological novels, cook books, feminist books, etc. I don't do sci-fi. Books are one thing I enjoy collecting. I am a minimalist who easily lets go of stuff not needed anymore but when it comes to books, I'll hoard them and still look for a little space somewhere to fix a new one without letting an old one go.

Currently, I don't have an appealing physical library. I have an e-library where I store my books. I have opened more than ten this month with the intention of reading all of them but exams came into the picture and put my excitement on hold. Yes, exams don't excite me but I pass them anyway.

Last year, I read more than thirty books which I haven't even been able to review. I keep throwing my reviews on here once in a while. Sometimes, I forget that I read a book until I see the name somewhere, mostly on Pinterest because my feed is literally filled with videos of books. When I see those videos, I'll be looking out for books I've read and the ones I haven't then, I'll be like; “yeah I read that one” but to be honest can't remember a single event in the book. I think this is something readers should normalize. Lol. Some things I read stick with me and there's no way in hell I'm forgetting it while some the moment I close it, after some days, escapes my memory but I'll still find it difficult to let the book go.

It's delightful seeing them. Most times I tend to reread what I've read before as it introduces me to new scenarios I thought I may have missed in the first read. Books are amazing. I mean they're precious to collect and hoard. There's this peace that washes over me the moment I see a new book I haven't read and I do everything in my power to make sure I get it especially when the cover looks enticing. The fact that I have the book makes me smile even though I haven't read it.

This year, I have made up my mind to read more than I did last year. I just hope my academics doesn't really meddle with my personal goals the way it did last year with some impromptu call to action.

I'm currently reading a book by Dean Koontz and it's like the most beautiful thing ever. I say this for every book though. The first chapter is already giving me mixed feelings and I like it when a book begins that way; dark and exciting.

Do you also love collecting books? Will love to read your experiences too.
