On one of those days when the world seems to move at a slug’s pace, an exciting adventure filled animation comes in handy.

Migration is a 2023, heartwarming animated adventure directed by Benjamin Renner. It follows the journey of a family of ducks who have never ventured beyond the safety of their little pond. When a group of migrating birds arrives and shares tales of Jamaica's landscape and beauty, the family becomes eager to explore. Despite their father's initial reluctance, they embark on the journey together but things soon go south when they get lost in the vast city of New York.

They encounter obstacles that make them question their decision of leaving their familiar home which they thought was a lot safer to wander in strange lands. Despite the challenges, they display courage and resilience, showcasing the importance of family bonds and of course perseverance.

My Rating

What I enjoyed so much about this animation is the cinematography. I mean, it is breathtaking, with vibrant colors that bring the lush landscapes and diverse characters to life. The film enhances the beauty of nature and all the characters' emotions, which in turn, immerses the viewer in the journey alongside the birds.

Another thing is that the animals in the film are portrayed with personality and charm. Pax, the wife of Mark, mother of Pam and Gwen is portrayed as a woman who can handle situations no matter how difficult. She always has a word or two to cheer people up, steering them back on track so they can focus on their goal. Gwen and his brother Dax are exceptional. The character I admired the most was Dax as his goofiness added a touch of humor to the film. An animation without humor to me is like coffee with caffeine; flat and utterly disappointing.

Moving on to the soundtrack, I'd say they curated the perfect songs as it enhanced the storytelling, with uplifting melodies that complemented the scenes perfectly. Trust me, the music added depth and emotion to the film. I really applaud the film's director and music supervisor for this one.

All in all, Migration passes as a film that entertains and inspires. I'd rate it a solid 4.5/5. It's a must-watch for animation lovers of all ages.
