Rio2

I recently watched the sequel of the 2011 comedic musical masterpiece, Rio, and it was truly captivating. The vivid colors, breathtaking landscape, enchanting musical sequences, dance, and the endearing characters all combined to give me a cinematic experience that left me exhilarated. However, despite the excitement and awe, was Nigel lurking around, thirsty for vengeance not minding his grounded state of being unable to fly due to the fatal accident he encountered in the previous sequel.

In this second chapter, Blu and his family set on a journey to the Amazon to find their elusive counterparts spurred by the revelation given by Linda and her husband that Blu and Jewel may not be the sole surviving macaw species. Upon their arrival in the Amazonian forest, jewel reconnects with her father and old acquaintances, especially bobo whose close rapport with Jewel sparks a bit of jealousy in Blu as they have pet names they call each other.

While everything is all whimsy and charming, I couldn't overlook jewel's persistence in trying to change Blu's domesticated nature. I mean he grew up with Linda, she took really good care of him and though he's a bird by nature, it seems he's pressured as he tries to conform to a life dictated by instinct rather than choice.

It's one thing to try to change a person but it's another thing for them to change and not be happy about the change.

Rio2 is a beautiful film with it's evocative soundtrack, the dance, the video quality and the performance of the characters all add depth to the film, making it even more entertaining. Yet, amidst the festivities, I can't leave out the tension that simmers as Nigel orchestrates his diabolical scheme for revenge, while on the other hand, the looming threat of Big Boss, the man who leads an illegal group of loggers also contribute in casting a sinister shadow over the macaws nest.

All of these moments of thrills and suspense, helps in ensuring an edge-of-your-seat experience from start to finish. I'd rate it a solid ⅘. If you haven't seen it yet, you should.
