That special evening!

Coffee is one of the best drinks drunk everywhere in the world and is definitely worth celebrating yearly. The international coffee day came and went without me tasting coffee but I still have a sweet memory of the first time I did and I tell you it was like heaven on Earth even though it had a slight bitter taste.

It was raining cats and dogs that evening and I was cold and home alone. There was no tea in my house nor was there any dry wood around to make a fire. I was left with just my blanket which wasn't quite enough to soothe the lingering cold that took over my flesh.

While I lay in bed thinking of my ordeal with the weather and the numerous work related problems I had, I heard the doorbell ring. I sprang to my feet and hurriedly got to the door. There was my boyfriend(ex at the moment) with a brown sack in his hands.

I didn't know what he had in there until I saw him walk into the kitchen. The sack held sachets of finely ground coffee. I touched it and it was so smooth, never have I touched anything as fine as it. I was left in awe watching him do his thing like a professional barista. "Who taught you how to prepare coffee"? I asked him that evening as the novice I was and he responded with a mischievous grin, handing me a cup with a bow.

The hot steam rubbing against my fingers immediately sent warmth to my cold skin and the aroma was one that made me feel like I was in heaven. "What is this drink?" I asked out of curiosity as it was my first time ever having to smell something that gave me immediate tranquility. He smiled again "why don't you just take a sip".

I took the cup up to my lip, blew out some steam and had my first sip. It burnt my tongue but it was worth it as I was cold on the inside and the outside. "Do you like it?" His eyes yearning to get a yes, I smiled back and slowly drowned the content of the cup in silence. My actions alone gave him the response he yearned for.

There was this inner peace, calmness and solitude that evening, while the thunder and rain did their thing. I escaped from their horrific drama with the help of coffee. Ever since, I've loved coffee and have had some more but not often because to me it's a special drink that deserves a special moment. I take it mostly when my head is crowded and when I need to feel that inner peace and calmness. It's an evening I can't forget in a hurry.

Oh thank you very much for the compliment. My love for coffee is still very much intact just that I don't take it often, I have my moments.

That's a nice memory. I'm sure hat you liked it on first sip. A lot of people don't like it at first but develop and acquired taste

I did like it on first sip, I think I'm just used to bitter tastes.

Just like my friend, after I had a taste, I introduced her to it too. You needed to see her face when she took the first sip🤣. She does love it now actually and even takes it more than I do.
