Magical Mothering Sundays over the years

avatar

Hello Hello Hivians and Silver Bloggers

Enjoy life and have fun is what my mother taught me

Every so often we get a wee reminder to sort things and that life can be short.

image.png

In this case I need to do some weeding.

Yesterday was Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day in the UK. Both my parents passed away some years ago.

My mother was a type 1 diabetic and ended up with vascular dementia.

image.png

A real double whammy if ever there was one. We had to ban her from doing her own insulin injections as she would do them again and again as she had no recollection of doing it.

If I post flowers and plants on this post, it is because that is what I would bring her whenever I visited her over the years.

image.png

Dementia really is horrible to watch and see your loved one disappear in front of your eyes.

My father passed away and we had to tell mother what happened. Well fluff that, I did it three times and no more. The heartbreak she would go through when she told us. No that was just too much.

So whenever she asked, we would say out that he is out with the dog or he is getting messages (groceries).

image.png

Well six months later she passed away in her sleep one night. The doctor admitted to and with me that he thought she had died of a broken heart, but of course he could not put that on a death certificate.

She was a happy go lucky person and I like to think I take after her in many ways.

She had the patience of a saint and I do try to be like her in that regard.

I remember her telling me to enjoy life and treat everyone the way I would like to be treated.

She was a very positive person and would get rid of friends who took her for granted. Fool me once shame on me I would hear her tell father but fool me twice well they can get to Coventry. This happened when there was carsharing to be done for kids going to school. One of the mothers thought mother was a pushover and kept saying she could not do her turn, but still expected her kids taken to school.

image.png

Yes mother was quite the politician. Perhaps being the daughter of the local bank manager when that was a highly esteemed position. Her father my grandfather was a Justice of the Peace and the Grand Treasurer for the Scottish Freemasons when they were at the height of their powers.

So when people took advantage, that was that. They were dispensed with!

When I went to college in Wales she told me to make sure not to be taken for granted.

Good advice and to this day, every so often I will remove people from my life that take you for granted or expect everything and give nothing in return.

People and projects she would say. Make sure they are fun and benefit you.

image.png

Less is more!

I call it my weeding time for Spring time.

It does get me to go through things, take Hive for example, I am a member of 53 yes 53 fluffing communities!

I know, because I just went and counted them...

There are communities I never visit, so those need to be whittled down. Then there are people on Hive who we don't interact with each other. Then the discord servers... they need to be whittled down. The Hive tokens, the Hive projects.

It is never ending ....

image.png

Do you keep track of it all?

Then away from Hive, we have crypto which is beginning to go into overdrive what with the bull run and new BTC and ETH ATHs time and after time!

So let's have fun weeding!

And if I have eliminated you #sorrynotsorry because the odds are you are not reading this anyway 🤣

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

She sounds like she was a wonderful lady. We don't celebrate mothers day here until sometime in May I think. I never know the date exactly. I'm horrible like that!

Hehe yes yours is in May. Mrs T is American so years ago we got into the habit of buying her mom a card here and posting so she gets it there in time for mother's day. Of course we do get one with Mum on it, as that tickles her mother seeing mum not mom!

I've already done a lot of weeding on Hive. I'm constantly weeding my creative stash in the attic and I've been trying to weed out all the admin type crap that's built up. I don't seem to be able to get ahead of the latter.

Sorry to hear about your mother's latter years. That must have been really hard for you all but it was lovely to hear of your memories of her from happier times.

We've postponed out Mothering Sunday celebratinos this year, until Mother's Day in May, because we were out celebrating 2 birthdays instead. It just fell at a really inconvenient time in 2024. 😁

Oh I love your attic stash!

Yeah it really was terrible, and I do try to be there for anyone who is going through it, unless you live through someone with dementia/Alzheimers it really is hard to imagine. You are right though, some wonderful happy times.

Ah so you are going to celebrate the American one in May. It is funny , Mrs T is from the States so we always buy a card in March to send in May o she gets one, and of course it tickles her as we purposely get one with Mum as opposed to their Mom!

My Mum benefits as well. She's gets a card and flowers/gifts on Mothering Sunday and she gets to celebrate again in May as she lives in Gozo and they do the American Mother's Day thing there. 😁

That must be hard, seeing your parent like that. She sounds like a wonderful woman who had greatly impacted your life.
Darn, brought tears to my eyes. 🥲 I'm so touchy when it comes to parents since my parents are now in their mid 60's. Still young, but since I've been away from home for the past 19 years, seeing them only a few times every few years or so, I feel like I missed so much. With each homecoming, the aging just becomes more evident. Hayyy....
And the weeding. Yes, I agree it is important in almost all aspects of our lives.

Aww giving you a big hig. Yeah she passed away in her mid 60s. Such a shame but yes it was horrible seeing her like that. Being away for 19 years, I get that feeling, I worked all over the world and lived for long spells in America and Spain and so did not see her for years at a time. Ah the ageing yes that happens, and is more noticeable now they age.
Life huh it sucks at times.

Thank you. ❤️

Mid 60's is an early age to go. :(

At least now, there's technology that it's easier to communicate, but personal interactions is still the best.

Yes young indeed. Tech is great and getting better, but there is no touch. Sometimes a hug a hold of hand just works wonders.

Yep, we got the chance to have a vacation in the Philippines last year when my dad had a hand surgery. I loved just hanging out in their room and watching their favorite videos with them.

Ah that is good you had a chance to be with him when he had that surgery. Yes hanging out, that is it in a nutshell!

Your mom was a strong woman and mother. I have a little knowledge of dementia and how it can wear out a patient.

It's nice of you to honour her memories this way.

A member of 53 communities huh, that's a lot of activity boss boss.

Happy weeding

I also encountered some people with dementia here. In the homes( place where they put their relatives if nobody would look after them). You need to repeat everything to them every now and then. Anyway Sorry for your loss.
Lucky you didn't eliminate me♥️😛.

Your mother must have been a very special person. And it couldn't be otherwise after all she was your mother 🌀

To remove people who take us for granted is a piece of wise advice.

Don't you dare weed me out 😉😆

Your mom gave really great advice I must confess. She seemed like a very strong and determined lady. It certainly must have been very sad loosing her to dementia but this post is a beautiful tribute to her.

Thank you and yes it was sad. But life is life, we lose people and we move on.

You really got me emotional when you spoke about dad and mom, such is life, it not easy living without those we love. I lost my dad a few years ago and the memory is still fresh, maybe am trying hard to let it go, hehehe.

Your mom is a great woman, truly we should not let anyone take us for granted, I tell you there are people out there who are just waiting for the slightest opportunity to us for granted. You do you best to make thing work out but the see it as some form of joke.

Weeding is very essential, if you are not ready to play along, get lost LOLOLO.. I just hope I am not part of those you are weeding off 🤣🤣🤣.

I came across this post on Dreemport
