The turbulent tale of the lone carrot

Hello Hello Hivians

I trust that you are all enjoying your weekend, or at least relaxing!

This week, Mrs T and I have been hit with a crappy flu which has been the worst that I can remember for years.

Something happened today which had me in hysterics and Mrs T said I had to share on a post.

So this post may well be suitable for #marketfriday or Comedy Open Mic but here it shall stay!

That picture above gives you a sneak preview as to what is coming up!

Do you order your groceries online?

I tend to get my fresh produce in the shops myself and walk home with said groceries. We ditched the car years ago and so just tend to get heavy items delivered to our home from the supermarkets when required.

We have a few Supermarkets in the UK, and I tend to alternate between Asda and Morrisons for our home deliveries.

However, they have pissed me off recently by either screwing up the order or by substituting things with inappropriate substitutes.

So I decided to use a different supermarket for the first time.

image.png

As you can see from that can of soup, it was Sainsbury's the supermarket that I chose.

One reason was that they had Benylin cough syrup in stock. The main reason was that as a first time user of a home delivery service from them I got ten pound cash back.

All good thought I, and went to sign up etc. I noticed that they had some rewards and if you got certain products you were given bonus points. This is like a loyalty rewards scheme.

No problem thought I.

image.png

I picked that bag up (the only problem with getting produce delivered is the plastic ~ when I pick my own I have reusable produce bags I use) and forgot what the fluff I had ordered.

Problem solved when out plopped ...

image.png

a rather small avocado. Priced at 55 pence per avocado then that was par for the course.

So the produce that I was getting these bonus points on was all vegetables.

Next up was broccoli.

image.png

I had selected 1 on the order form. They had the price online as £1.92/kg so I though my 1 would be one kilo of broccoli.

Yes it is my favourite green vegetable.

Not to be,the one was for one big piece.

Tomorrow I thought I would roast a chicken, and have mashed tatties and brocolli. I would then boil the carcase and make some chicken soup.

I would to my next produce bag which I had ordered for the soup.

image.png

What the actual fluff is going on?

The bags were open and it really was loose vegetables as described. I looked around and nope, there were no more carrots.

image.png

And that ladies and gentlemen is the carrot, that is what I got with my shopping...

One fluffing carrot

Surely some mistake thought I...

image.png

There was the price of £0.50 per kilo and I remember I put 1 expecting one kilo.

image.png

But oh noooo I got one yes one fluffing carrot costing four pence!

By now I had twigged that yes I had asked for not one kilo of carrots but one loose carrot.

Away I went to show Mrs T the lone carrot and for the next five minutes it was a case of hysterical laughter!

So there we have it, the tale of the lone carrot!

I did get some other things. Easter do you know that Easter is less than a month away?

image.png

They did have some Cadbury's chocolate eggs on sale, so fill your boots time @coquicoin what shall we have first?

By the way I did get some healthy stuff too you know!

image.png

Many moons ago I used to drink Raspberry and Echinacea tea from Twinings when I was not well.

So apparently after some internet digging, they stopped making it as it was not popular enough!

Fluffing arses!

No worries, I got some different teas to try...

What do you drink when you have the flu or a heavy cold?

This is also my contribution to #marketfriday from the terrific @dswigle

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

Now I've heard it all, 1 carrot???🙈 Just crazy, I wonder what the person doing the shopping thought!
Sorry to hear you & Mrs. T were so sick with flu, it seems to be doing the rounds all over the world. Fresh ginger (vraged) & honey tea is the best for flu, helps with congestion
The 1 carrot reminds me of a guest who booked for 1 but 2 guests arrived. He calmly said yes, he did book for one, it was 1 couple! I think my mouth droppd onto the floor!
Hope you're better soon Ed!

The flu was not so fun and hopefully starting to mend. Ah yes ginger is good but what is vraged?

Do you order your groceries online?

Yes, we discovered it during the lockdown and we haven't gone back since! We pick them up, since it saves us the delivery fees. Online shopping saves us an enormous amount of time, but I still like to go the the brick-and-mortar store to shop deals. But them my wife has to work with whatever "deals" I bring home!

What do you drink when you have the flu or a heavy cold?

We have a very wide varities of teas and tinctures that we use when we have an illness. Cream and honey make them much more palletable, since they are very herbal and don't taste great by itself. We drink ESSIAC tea, which is bitter, unless we doctor it up.

To answer the last question: thyme tea + mint with honey to sweeten, very effective. Take care of yourself

So sorry to hear that you and Mrs. T had caught some flu. Get well soon. Sometimes online shopping could be frustrating especially with groceries. I buy in shops and not online though.

That is hilarious, one carrot. 😀
I used to order veggies and fruit during the lockdown. It was convenient, but now I would rather choose myself what to put in the busket. Besides, supermarkets are walking distance from home as well as some small shops.

For flu or cold I have ginger tea, honey and lemon. This year many complain the flue to be much worse, some say worse than the covid. A mate from work end up in hospital with pneumonia.
Glad you are feeling better, take care.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 only You can get ONE carrot in your shopping order haha.
You only got one so use it wisely LOL.

And I see you are preparing your stock of Cadbury's chocolate eggs to torture me in the next few days when you eat them, jeje right Super Ed? 😂😂

I hope you are better from the flu. For the cold, we drink ginger tea with lemon and honey, and better to do it with fresh ginger.

I've never tried to order groceries online, but just thinking of it I can imagine all the challenges that might arise! I'd be laughing my ass off too if I were sent one carrot...😂! Both elderberry (Sambucus species) and Echinacea species are easy to grow under temperate conditions, so I'd suggest gettting plants and growing your own! I don't get sick often, but if I ever have an issue, I make a mix of various potent medicinal plant from the land! That always does the trick! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I like ordering many things online as it means I don't need a car.
I need to see about growing Echinacea, have not seen them over here!

Yes, I definitely understand that! Echinacea should be able to grow there. You could order seeds online! Happy Monday! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
