Memories of pride, sacrifice and personal satisfaction

Greetings to all my friends of yesteryear! Today I come to join the Silver Prompt thanks to the invitation of my dear friend @annafenix, in the topic of the month we will be sharing a picture of us and talking about our memories.

I have selected this photograph from my graduation ceremony.

The first feeling I get from this photograph is pride. I was the first daughter in my family to bring a degree to the house, although I had 2 older sisters, both dropped out of school, years later when it was my turn to study then I decided to graduate as a teacher and with much effort I did it.

When I was starting my career, they began to ask me for materials to work on teaching activities, for example: paper, colored chalk, crayons, paints, colored wool, they were expensive materials for that time and my mother washed and ironed other people's clothes to be able to give us pleasure, so she did not have enough money for this. With much fear she told me one morning to tell my father that I needed a list of materials, at that time it was almost disrespectful to speak to the head of the household, trembling I told him that I needed my work materials and if he could buy them for me, his response was as follows: why waste your time on such nonsense? Women are from home so don't go back to school.

Heartbroken and choking back tears, I returned to the kitchen. My mother was waiting for me with a hug and while I took refuge in her bosom she told me calmly daughter I am going to do some extra work so I can buy your list of materials.

And so it was. My mother started making and selling cakes on the weekends and made cheese bread, rice with chicken, vegetable soup and everything she could think of to be able to buy me everything I needed. Little by little I learned to make my work material: information sheets, thematic posters, didactic games, lettering with rulers and markers, teacher's planning, in short, I was ready to graduate.

But I failed physical education and sports. I was a very shy girl with complexes because of my bulky body; my sports uniform was a T-shirt and short shorts, which embarrassed me a lot and I did not leave the bathroom so that my classmates would not see my legs. Because of the absences I failed.

It was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life, telling my mother that after all the sacrifice she had made so that I could graduate, now I could not go out with my classmates because I had to take physical education again. My mother talked to me and my sports teacher and made me understand that if I didn't take the course and pass, then all the theoretical and practical work of the classes would be in vain.

I got active and didn't miss a single class again. So I graduated a semester later. And on the day of my graduation my mother and grandmother came to support me.

In this picture, there is my grandmother, my mother's mother, my mother and my nephew. I am holding my degree in my hand very proudly.

After I graduated as a teacher, I went to work in a country school and half of my salary went to my mother, who deserved that and much more. So she stopped working and could rest at home in peace.

This second picture makes me nostalgic, since both my grandmother and my mother passed away many years ago. And my spoiled nephew I have almost 6 years of seeing him and he does not even live in the same country.

I appreciate this space that makes us remember beautiful moments. I hope we will go in a next opportunity. Greetings!

Very inspiring story!

You're an incredible role model to all our young women.

Keep shining the light, sister. And keep upping your higher education and showing people that the sky is limitless as long as a person is determined and focused!

Congrats on that degree and much success for your future. 💥
