My work experience at wholesale potato warehouse.

avatar

Hello friends
I hope you are having good time.

I mentioned in my previous post that I am a self employed person. Being drowned in financial bad conditon, once, I had to look for a part time job.I went to many places but finding a decent paying job was very difficult as the timing of the job and my spare weren't matching. After trying hard for weeks, I found a job.Timing of the job totally matched with my spare time and that's why I took the oppertunity and soon I joined.

Source [sacs of potatoes]

It was potato wholesale warehouse. Main item was potato but there were other items like onion, garlic and eggs also. Most of people from adjacent market would go there to by items for their shops. My job was to handle the cash counter and noting down the inventory at the same time. I used to go there at 5 am. and my duty was for 6 hrs hence. I would close my day's business around 12 pm because I had to count the stock, the sold times and cash. Balancing the opening stock and closing stock is a tough job of course.

Owner of the warehouse:

He is a simple man, always abuses and very rough using words but good at maintaining his business well smooth.Initially it was very difficult to cope with him and the enviornment around.later I was used to it.He had built the business one-handedly working hard day and night over past 20 years. He hadn't go to any school but yet he is very good at doing his business. He totally surprised me.

Source [He is not the real person]

He lived in the footpath in early days.Oneday he gave a little shop with vegetables. Thus he started his journey.Ofcourse he had to go through tough times but never got disappointed. Working with labour class made him abusive but it's okay. Many of educated people usually do it.

All this things I heard from his wife. She said when they got married, her father helped him with a piece of land for that he could run the shop from there. His business started growing and onday he bought another shop in the market. He started running the business from both places. He hired a few workers. The new addition of business was also growing up day by day. After 20 years of memorable journey he took another storehouse and I was appointed to take care of it.

Sale and profit per day:

After my joining, I came to know his a lot of warehouses but I do not know much about other houses. All of the accounts is from my warehouse but she said in sale this warehouse is at 3rd position in term of selling.

Source

Selling 150 sacs of 50kg potato produces him approx $150 @ $1/sac.

Selling 100 sacs of 50kg onion produces him approx $150 @ $1.5/ sac.

Garlic produces him approx $50.

Eggs produced him approx $100.

So, Per day profit from a warehouse approx $450.

He has expenses and salaries that I calculated is approx $50.

So, his daily profit from my warehouse approx $400.

He has more than 5 warehouse in different places whose approximate
average profit is $ 300.I calculated his daily income from all of his warehouses $1500.

Of course he has other expenses like amusing locals gangs, managing political parties. He is a famous man indeed but what is the most surprising part of the stroy , he still sits on a Flat mat in his warehouse and sells article in his own hand. Human is a slave of his habit. He built the habit from the early stage of his journey at the roadside.

Lesson I learned:

Keeping patience is the best quality to be succeed.

Source

In my mind there was always a question, how did he do it? As I was visualising everything from point blank,he has ability to sell things at any price he wanted what he acquired gradually from past 20 years. He doesn't abuse with consumer. He did it with workers. He had to became so. Let me tell you a story.

Source [The plough man holding a stick in his hand]

A plough man says to his cow ," buddy walks." He doesn't listen to him. He tries to go off track. Then he repeats the same words but the result is same. At last when he keeps a stick in his hand and says, " Ash..le left,... right" with hard beating from behind. The cow now don't go off track and thus the works of plough man is done.

The man does the same think to his workers to get the job done but after work he is different person with a good heart.

His success is because over the 20 years,he built up a massive customer base. You may have money , you may have quality to manage a business but the most important thing is you need buyers of your good quality product. Building huge customer base is not a joke. It needs time , hard work and the honesty of course.

Hive perspective:

The same goes for hivers also: Building friendships engaging with people on and off chain, keeping patient as nothing comes over the night.

Source [Bees collecting honey patiently]

Daily reading others' post and trying to write good or bad will make you a habitual blogger gradually and then days will come, you will be writing anything without pushing yourself hard. The same as the man has been doing for 20 years. So long time!! We can make impact in one year.Think about the people who are here from the begining. They took 4-5 years and they had hard time doing so. But we have support from the begining of our journey on hive.So there is no way of disappointment.

Everyone on this planet is living a better life than everyone's ancestor.Because possibilities , oppertunities are always better than that of a generation ago.We should always think positive and spread it everywhere.

I hope you enjoyed my article today.

Thanks you so much for bearing me till end.

Have a great day.

Wow amazing story. Your employer is a really interesting man, nice to see how patient and dedicated he is to his business. There's always something to learn from business people like this, discipline and patience.
Lovely how you applied this knowledge to hive. It's a well thought out blog Bhai. Thank you for sharing.

I also like how you compared and contrasted the importance of customer base in both businesses and also in Hive platform as well. In Hive in your definition customer base would be fluid engagement. And it does take a long time too~ good reputation doesnt happen in a day for sure.

Another good point you mentioned was about patience. and till this day I always struggle with patience not because I am trying to rush things, but I want "better faster" results. Maybe I take the term Time is Money too literally.

Great read and it seems you have found your style of writing here. You tell us your Experience and most importantly you also tell us what you learned from it. I like that man~ :)

That's true, we have to be careful of being impatient as that might lead us to fall into depression.

Hello chote bahi

Thanks for visiting
Boss always have pressure and they put that pressure on worker. Like the story of plough man, nobody put effort if there are not pressurised.😂

I was wondering why your employer was kinda rough but when you tell the story about the cow and its owner, I now understand why. It’s tough running a business and he has been doing that for a very long time. It’s not all highs but there are lows as well, and over time, he has learned a lot from that experience.
We learn from his experiences too because you shared this story to us and you even made it simple for us by relating to what we are doing here in Hive.

Everything in life requires patience and perseverance. If you have these two, you can eventually get everything you want. I guess that's the kind of person your boss is.

Your boss was not just a boss, he was a leader as well, I see that he always tries to show the way for you his employees and I'm very sure that has added to the reason why he is so successful at his business.

The story you gave about the shepherd and his cattle really drove home the message of how you boss operates and I think it's totally understandable.

Giving us a lesson was one of the things I enjoyed reading most, patience is a virtue and not so many has it. You made mention of being honest and I want to agree with you. Being truthful makes people want to trust you and that will make them value what you offer.

Hive is a really big community all together and it's only wise for one to be consistent and persistent to get good results. So many that just came in less than two years to hive have been really lucky than some that have been here for a longer time and it is wise to use that privilege wisely because nothing last forever.

Creating a relationship with others on and off the chain is one of the best way to make these benefits last but then, there is always a price to pay and that is ENGAGEMENT. We are all new here and for others to know we exist, we have to say something first and we can do that effectively by interacting with others.

I can go on and on with what I have to say now but I will have to end it here. This was an amazing write up and that's why I have so much to say, hehe.

What I can say is the owner is a very street smart person, and he has grown with his experiences. Also his hard work and never give up attitude has brought him to this position. He started on his own and came this far, yes on the way he had some good lucks, like the gift of land from his father in law, which boosted him big time. But if one does not have willingness to succeed than no matter whatever backup you have it is all useless.
