Today I am releasing the newest entry in my series Songs to Liberate Arulco To. The series is meant to be ambient background music for gaming, working, and sports. I try to capture the vibe of the original Jagged Alliance 2 OST, which was mainly driven by military drums, suspenseful strings, and marimbas.

🎵 Behind the Song

"Meet the Rebels" originally started as a byproduct while I was trying to create "Viva la Revolution". I wanted to combine the fiery spirit of a revolution with the chill ambient vibe of JA2. In total, I went through about 50 versions of "Viva la Revolution" until I was finally satisfied—it was quite the task!

However, around the tenth version, I realized: This does not sound like a revolution, but it is a great mix of Latin elements with the JA2 sound. Maybe it can play when you first encounter the rebels.

Since I have been working much more with Murekai on my JA2-style themes, I discovered a few important aspects of the tool. For example, I learned that I should not use negated prompts like "no salsa music", because Murekai will often overlook the "no" and create the exact opposite of what I actually want.

The main thing I added for that specific Latin flavor was an old Spanish guitar. While it is not part of the original JA2 ensemble, I think it is very fitting and gives the whole track a more Desperado vibe that gels well with the overall spirit of Jagged Alliance.

🎨 The Cover Art

Like I mentioned in my last post, I discovered that Google AI can create really neat 90s-style comic images. I plan to stick to that style because I personally really really like it, and I think it works perfectly as a visual homage to Jagged Alliance.

However, my last release got a really bad click-through rate (CTR) on YouTube, since it does not seem clear from the thumbnail alone that there is ambient music behind it. To fix this, I added the secondary title/caption "Arulco Ambiente", which I will be using on my thumbnails from now on to give viewers an instant visual cue.

Heute veröffentliche ich den neuesten Teil meiner Reihe Songs to Liberate Arulco To. Die Serie ist als Ambient-Hintergrundmusik zum Zocken, Arbeiten und für den Sport gedacht. Ich versuche dabei, den Vibe des originalen Jagged Alliance 2 OSTs einzufangen, der hauptsächlich von militärischen Trommeln, spannungsgeladenen Streichern und Marimbas getrieben war.

"Meet the Rebels" entstand ursprünglich als Nebenprodukt, während ich versucht habe, "Viva la Revolution" zu erschaffen. Ich wollte den feurigen Geist einer Revolution mit dem chilligen Ambient-Vibe von JA2 verbinden. Insgesamt habe ich etwa 50 Versionen von "Viva la Revolution" durchprobiert, bis ich endlich zufrieden war – das war ein ganz schönes Stück Arbeit!

Um die zehnte Version herum wurde mir jedoch klar: Das klingt überhaupt nicht nach Revolution, sondern nach einer großartigen Mischung aus lateinamerikanischen Elementen und dem JA2-Sound. Vielleicht kann es spielen, wenn man den Rebellen das erste Mal begegnet.

Da ich bei meinen JA2-Stil-Themes mittlerweile viel mehr mit Murekai gearbeitet habe, konnte ich ein paar wichtige Aspekte des Tools herausfinden. Zum Beispiel habe ich gelernt, dass ich keine verneinten Prompts wie "no salsa music" verwenden sollte, weil Murekai das "no" oft übersieht und genau das Gegenteil von dem erschafft, was ich eigentlich will. Nach ein paar Tagen habe ich mir dann also die erste Version von "Meet the Rebels" geschnappt und sie zu dem chilligen, aber spannungsgeladenen Latin-Song verfeinert, den ihr euch oben anhören könnt.

Das Hauptelement, das ich für das spezifische Latin-Flair hinzugefügt habe, war eine alte spanische Gitarre. Obwohl sie nicht Teil des originalen JA2-Ensembles ist, finde ich sie sehr passend. Sie verleiht dem ganzen Track einen stärkeren Desperado-Vibe, der meiner Meinung nach hervorragend mit dem Geist von Jagged Alliance harmoniert.

"Viva la Revolution" wird in einer Woche veröffentlicht, also abonniert den Kanal und bleibt dran!

🎨 The Cover Art

Wie ich bereits in meinem letzten Post erwähnt habe, habe ich entdeckt, dass die Google-KI richtig coole Comic-Bilder im 90er-Jahre-Stil erstellen kann. Ich plane, bei diesem Stil zu bleiben, weil ich ihn persönlich wirklich sehr mag und er als visuelle Hommage an Jagged Alliance perfekt passt.

Allerdings hatte mein letztes Release eine wirklich schlechte Klickrate (CTR) auf YouTube, da anhand des Thumbnails allein wohl nicht klar wird, dass sich dahinter Ambient-Musik verbirgt. Um das zu beheben, habe ich den sekundären Titel/Untertitel "Arulco Ambiente" hinzugefügt, den ich von nun an auf meinen Thumbnails verwenden werde, um den Zuschauern direkt einen visuellen Hinweis zu geben.
