Focusing On School Right Now.

Uni Over Hive.gif

Hello there, Hive. It's been quite a while since I made a post. It's times like this when I don't really know how to get back to blogging that I am thankful for a community like this one where I can just say stuff.

I made a post back in January basically ranting about how I disliked Uni and wanted to drop out. I got a lot of great comments from different people advising me on what to do (which I really appreciate). To be honest, I already made up my mind but about two weeks into the semester, I had a conversation with my mum and she was able to convince me to suck it up and continue with uni. So that's what I did.

Initially, I didn't really put a lot of effort into school because I still didn't like the idea of doing it. We were even given about a month off because of the elections in the country and that was a huge relief for every student nationwide. After the break though, we had just a week or two before exams and that was when everyone began to panic. Of course, I had promised myself that I would study during the free month but I unsurprisingly did not stick to that plan. Being way behind in all my courses, I decided to put Hive aside and put all my focus in my school work.

The exams seemed to last forever but it all finally came to an end last week and I am very confident that I performed really well in all my courses. In fact, these were the best exams that I have written ever since I got into uni in 2018. I used to like bragging about being a nerd that is studying mathematics but just recently, I was able to fall in love with the course again. During this period, I was able to learn a lot from others and also teach what I know. I was able to rediscover my love for sharing math knowledge. Weird. I know.

The major problem I have right now is how time consuming it is to be a uni student in this country. As the staff union tries to recover literal years lost from strikes, the students really don't have a lot of free time. The new semester had begun even before anyone was done with exams and now we have to start getting ready for the next exams coming up in July. We have just a few weeks to finish lectures and so there will be a lot of extra classes. It just seems as though we're just in uni to write exams until we pass out.

Well, the good news for me is that I enjoy the challenge. Also, I should be done with uni by next year if another strike does not happen. Even if it does not work out that way, I am learning to be a little bit more patient and to take life one step at a time. I will be 22 years old in a couple of weeks which means I am still really young to worry about time running out like I used to. Right now, I just want to focus on school and finish strong.

That said, I struggle to find a balance between schooling and blogging especially with all the work that needs to be done in such a short time. I can make a few posts per week but I go into panic mode when exams come and then I can't blog anymore. So, I guess I will be a lot less active on Hive than I'd wish to be. I will still try to reach some goals across the chain but the bigger ones will probably come after I graduate next year!

I have to say though, it was a tough choice for me in the past. But yeah, you can definitely focus on Uni and maybe try fitting in Hive as it's not bad hustling here and there :D

It’s really not an easy choice but I gotta do what I gotta do. Thank you for the advise back then. It really helped me weigh my options. I’m grateful for people like you 🫶🏽

Take the experience as a learning opportunity, no pun intended lol. Sadly most of the things you do at university will have little relevance for a career. Some of it will be helpful but a lot of it is just filler. The good thing about it though is the work ethic we derive from it!

Oh some part of me still believes that I would be better off not wasting anymore time but I might as well just finish what I started. There's definitely a lot to learn in uni apart from the courses themselves. Also, there's still time after uni to do everything I want to do!
