A Beautiful Philadelphia Silver Peace Dollar

At the end of World War I in 1918 the world tried to get back normal life. Europe was rebuilding, and America was heading into the roaring 20's. The Peace dollar was produced replacing the Morgan design in 1921. Like I had mentioned in a previous post the coin's designer Anthony de Francisci used his wife as the model for the Peace dollar's design producing one of the most beautiful coins the US has ever produced in my opinion.

This coin comes from some of my older collection of which I still have pictures on my laptop. I had shared a 1922 S previously but this is the Philadelphia production. A nice solid coin overall with the iconic beautiful design. There was a high relief version made of this coin as well in 1922 in a proof version, but only 35,401 were minted. A graded PR 65 could bring in close to $300,000 US, sadly I don't own one...

Leo is so frustrating, doesn't pull up the reverse picture. I may just have to go to a new platform permanently.

Sweet, I just started helping my youngest son start putting together his set of them. He just got a 1921, now ironically he is looking for the 1922 PDS next. First though he has some car repairs he has to pay for :-)

Those car repairs really suck, but without a car you end up doing a lot of walking!

Depending on grade they aren't to bad unless you're looking for the proof, then good luck!

Yeah, some of the MS grades get pricey as well. His budget is allowing for around Fine to XF for the most part.

He should do ok there, once you get into MS they can get expensive

Great design unfortunately it’s very hard to get a beautiful looking one. Most BU ones have issues. MS66 or higher are the only really nice ones. It’s a shame

It really is, but it's hard to find something exceptional. There are so many MS61 to 62's out there and they just lack the wow factor.

I wonder how many graded PR 65 are in collectors hands?
Sadly one of these beautiful high relief, high grade coins, is not in my collection either.....😞

Not many survived intact. PCGS has very few graded in the high end proofs. In 2014 a PR67 went for $458K. Here's there trend sheet:

Just the design is so elegantly done! I really wish they would bring back liberty to our coinage and ditch the presidents!
