[ESP-ENG] Mis vacaciones en Estados Unidos

¡Hola amigos! ¡Cuánto tiempo! Vengo regresando a mi tierra nativa después de tomarme unas largas y formidables vacaciones en el exterior, y es acerca de ello de lo que quiero comentar en este nuevo y reciente post. ¿Comenzamos?

Hello friends, it's been a long time! I'm coming back to my native land after taking a long and formidable holiday abroad, and that's what I want to talk about in this new and recent post. Shall we start?

Hace casi dos meses ya, decidí tomarme un tiempo para mí para así poder relajarme y lograr aspirar aire nuevo, todo debido a la saturación y la mucha carga de trabajo que tenía; fue cuando vi, en ese entonces el momento oportuno para despejar mi mente y mi cuerpo de forma gradual. Agarré una maleta y me fui hacia la dirección Norte. La experiencia comenzó desde el mismo avión, cuando volando por encima de las nubes recordé lo chiquito que es nuestro planeta y que con los suficientes recursos podemos llegar a donde sea, y que el potencial de nuestros sueños y metas debe ser mayor que nuestra situación actual y el lugar donde nos encontremos.

Almost two months ago, I decided to take some time for myself in order to relax and get some fresh air, all due to the saturation and the heavy workload I had, and I saw the right time to gradually clear my mind and body. I grabbed a suitcase and headed north. The experience started from the plane itself, when flying above the clouds I remembered how small our planet is and that with enough resources we can go anywhere, and that the potential of our dreams and goals must be bigger than our current situation and where we are.

Resulta curioso, porque hace dos años antes ni pensaba que este momento podría suceder en mi vida, y la oportunidad vino más bien por sí misma a mediación de una necesidad. Mi primer punto de aterrizaje fue en Houston, Texas, donde la verdad, a pesar del clima y el ambiente la pasé genial, visité el museo de la NASA, el downtown de la ciudad, caminé las calles en la noche y varias tiendas también. El choque cultural fue inmenso, entre varios factores, desde los módicos precios de los productos, el vacío que se siente en las calles y hasta ver las nubes al lado de los edificios e incluso tocarlas con las manos.

It's funny, because two years ago I didn't even think that this moment could happen in my life, and the opportunity came rather by itself through necessity. My first landing point was in Houston, Texas, where the truth is, despite the weather and the atmosphere I had a great time, I visited the NASA museum, the downtown area of the city, walked the streets at night and several shops as well. The culture shock was immense, among several factors, from the product's low prices, the emptiness felt in the streets and even seeing the clouds next to the buildings and even touching them with my hands.

Mi segundo destino fue en Boston, una de las ciudades del estado de Massachusetts, donde hubo un cambio brusco en comparación al primero. La mayor diferencia entre Houston y Boston es que en Houston debes tomar un taxi, un Uber o Lift a donde quiera que vayas, eso si quieres optimizar el tiempo, aunque tienes otras alternativas de transportation como el bus y el metro. Si nunca has ido a Boston, de hecho, este es el lugar que te recomiendo visitar de antemano, hago un resumen debajo.

My second destination was Boston, one of the cities in the state of Massachusetts, where there was an abrupt change compared to the first one. The biggest difference between Houston and Boston is that in Houston you have to take a taxi, an Uber or Lift to wherever you are going, if you want to optimise your time, although you have other transportation alternatives such as the bus and the subway. If you have never been to Boston, in fact, this is the place I recommend you to visit beforehand, I make a summary below.

Boston es una ciudad muy inclusiva, tecnologizada y llena de vida, donde puedes caminar a donde quieras, con opciones de transportación de hasta tres líneas por debajo de la tierra, que constan de: bus, y dos líneas de metro subterráneas en ese orden, por lo que llegar a un punto del mapa no es un problema en lo absoluto. Todos los ciudadanos que me topé en cada momento fueron muy amigables, que desde que te ven: te saludan, e incluso si te ven que necesitas ayuda te auxilian de forma inmediata. La característica más peculiar de Boston es que todo, desde la comida hasta la transportación es excesivamente cara, pero que eso no te quite las ganas de ir algún día.

Boston is a very inclusive, tech-savvy and lively city, where you can walk anywhere you want, with transportation options up to three lines below ground, consisting of: bus, and two underground subways lines in that order, so getting to a point on the map is not a problem at all. All the citizens I encountered were really very friendly, and as soon as they see you, they greet you, and even if they see you need help, they assist you immediately. The most peculiar characteristic of Boston is that everything, from food to transportation, is excessively expensive, but don't let that feature stop you to going there one day.

Aquí, tuve la oportunidad de visitar la Universidad de Harvard (donde estudió Mark Zuckerberg), el MIT (campus tecnológico donde se desarrollaron significativos avances de la ciencia y sistemas de software), el CIC, Resilient Coders, las tiendas de Tesla (hablé con tal figura representativa, no Elon Musk, para conocer la posibilidad de agregar pagos de autos en la criptomoneda Hive o HBD), las oficinas del IBM y entre otros lugares que podrás ver en mi perfil de Liketu. Si has oído hablar de Cambridge, Chelsea o Sommerville, pues son esos los puntos de referencia de estos lugares que menciono, para acortar. Estuve viviendo en la zona del Seaport por alrededor de un mes, donde queda mucho aún por contar.

Here, I had the opportunity to visit Harvard University (where Mark Zuckerberg studied), MIT (technology campus where significant advances in science and software systems were developed), the CIC, Resilient Coders, Tesla shops (I spoke with such a representative figure, not Elon Musk, to learn about the possibility of adding car payments in the Hive cryptocurrency or HBD), IBM offices and among other places that you can see in my Liketu profile. If you've heard of Cambridge, Chelsea or Sommerville, well, those are the landmarks of the places I mentioned before, for short. I've been living in the Seaport area for about a month, where there's still a lot to tell.

Boston dejó una huella en mi mente, mi vida y dejo claro que marcó un antes y un después en mi camino como emprendedor, a pesar del frío de menos cuatro grados o a veces 8ºC, sus días lluviosos y su clima constantemente cambiante. Me dejó una nueva familia, nuevos amigos, puertas abiertas, colaboraciones y me dejó desenvolverme en el idioma inglés y lo mejor de todo, con varios acentos.

Boston left an imprint on my mind, my life and made it clear that it marked a before and after in my journey as an entrepreneur, despite the cold of minus four degrees or sometimes 8ºC, its rainy days and its constantly changing weather. It left me with a new family, new friends, open doors, collaborations and it left me fluent in English and best of all, with several accents.

Por último, visité el Pentágono (ya se imaginan que no se pueden tomar fotografías por ser una zona restringida), estuve en el estado de Virginia y District of Columbia, donde se encuentra Washington, y Alexandria (lugar de la serie de The Walking Dead). Allí visité varios monumentos y museos como el Museo del Espacio, el de Ciencias Naturales, el Washington Monument, la Casa Blanca, el Lincoln Memorial, el Capitolio y otros. Virginia y D.C. son estados que están uno al lado del otro e incluso puedes ir caminando para visitarlos, con diferencias que simulan características de las ciudades donde previamente estuve, siendo una combinación entre una ciudad orientada para peatones y para automóviles a la par.

Finally, I visited the Pentagon (you can imagine that you can't take pictures because it is a restricted area), I was in the state of Virginia and District of Columbia, where Washington is located, and Alexandria (location of The Walking Dead series). There I visited several monuments and museums such as the Space Museum, the Natural Science Museum, the Washington Monument, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol and others. Virginia and D.C. are side-by-side states and you can even walk to visit them, with differences that simulate characteristics of the cities I was previously in, being a combination of a pedestrian and car-oriented city on par.

Ya estoy de regreso a La Habana, y puedo decir que cumplí mi objetivo principal, atreviéndome a decir que superé el motivo principal del viaje. Esta visita me sirvió de mucho para no sólo devolverme mi paz interior, sino también para ver, analizar y conocer cómo funcionan otras culturas en el área de la tecnología, y cómo puedo ayudar a mejorarlas tanto allá como en mi país natal.

I'm now back in Havana, and I can say that I fulfilled my main objective, and I dare to say that I surpassed the main reason of this journey. This visit was very useful not only to restore my inner peace, but also to see, analyze and learn how other cultures work in the area of technology, and how I can help to improve them both there and in my home country.
