My journey towards entrepreneurship

Being an entrepreneur is no easy task, many of us entrepreneurs start from scratch on our own path by changing the "sure thing" for the "what will life know what". There is no manual on how to be an entrepreneur, as one's solutions may not necessarily be the feasible solutions for others. My solo path to self-worth was no different than many others starting out, but each step and mistake I made, helped me a lot to take the next one. My name is Eddy Campos and today I am here to tell you the story of how I got started in the field of entrepreneurship.

Ser un emprendedor no es tarea fácil, muchos emprendedores comenzamos de cero nuestro propio camino cambiando lo “seguro” por lo que sabrá la vida qué. No existe un manual de cómo emprender, ya que las soluciones de uno, pueden no ser necesariamente las soluciones factibles para otros. Mi camino en solitario hacia la propia valorización no fue diferente a las de muchos que comienzan, pero cada paso y error que cometí, me sirvió de mucho para dar el siguiente. Mi nombre es Eddy Campos y hoy vengo a hacerles la historia de cómo me inicié en el campo del emprendedurismo.

I have always loved music, and even more, electronic music when I discovered it around 2012. Over the years I saw that in my home country, Cuba, there wasn't a solid enough market niche for artists to grow in this culture. That's how I founded Arvansis with two colleagues, which would be a space for artists to connect and spread their music.

Desde siempre me ha gustado la música, y más, la música electrónica cuando la descubrí hacia el año 2012. Con el pasar de los años vi que en mi país natal, Cuba, no existía un nicho de mercado lo suficientemente sólido para que los artistas crecieran en esta cultura. Así fue como fundé Arvansis junto a dos colegas, el cual sería un espacio para que los artistas pudieran conectar y difundir su música.

Due to the scarcity of data for internet connection and the team's lack of knowledge of other distribution platforms, we operated only on Telegram, Instagram and SoundCloud, but only had more emphasis on the first one organically, where we placed artists' songs on a dedicated channel. Views and listens were very low and we had competition from another entity with similar functions, which led us a year and a half later to the culmination of the project. This, in addition to the fact that our services included a small fee every three months for distribution, a fee that many of our artists refused to pay after the three months had passed.

Debido a la escasez de datos para conexión a Internet y el desconocimiento por parte del equipo con respecto a otras plataformas de distribución, nosotros operábamos solamente en Telegram, Instagram y SoundCloud, pero sólo teníamos más énfasis en la primera de forma orgánica, donde colocábamos las canciones de los artistas en un canal dedicado a ello. Las vistas y escuchas eran muy bajas y teníamos la competencia de otra entidad con funciones parecidas, lo que nos llevó un año y medio después a la culminación del proyecto. Esto, además de que nuestros servicios incluían un pequeño fee cada tres meses por distribución, fee que muchos de nuestros artistas se negaban a pagar luego de pasar los tres meses.

I was lost, not so much because I had no money, since I didn't have much of it at the time, but because I still had no a definite purpose. In 2021 I had to go into the courier business, selling foodstuffs and clothes to make ends meet, while I was in my fifth and final year of university. I lost a lot of weight and didn't feel good about myself. I fell into the rat race when I started working for the state, where my life consisted of waking up, working, coming home, doing chores and sleeping. And that's when I decided to start up again, mainly because I didn't have a penny and what I had I had to stretch it out for 15 days until I got paid, I felt useless.

Me vi perdido, no tanto sin dinero ya que no lo tenía abundante en aquellos tiempos, sino porque no tenía aún un propósito definido. En 2021 tuve que dedicarme a las mensajerías, la venta de productos alimenticios y ropa para poder subsistir, esto, mientras cursaba el quinto y último año de la universidad. Bajé mucho de peso y no me sentía bien conmigo mismo, caí en la carrera de la rata cuando comencé a trabajar estatalmente donde mi vida se resumía en despertar, trabajar, llegar a la casa, hacer los quehaceres y dormir. Y fue cuando decidí emprender de nuevo, principalmente porque no tenía un duro y lo que tenía debía estirarlo por 15 días hasta el cobro, me sentía inútil.

My friend @ramkarooz, who had been telling me about Bitcoin technology since 2020, in January 2022 I wrote to him asking how I could make money with it. Because it was a lot of information for me at the time, I didn't understand it, and decided to study it myself. Three weeks later I knew what an NFT, a cryptocurrency and a blockchain was, which introduced me to something not only new to me, but also to the world, and that's where I really got into it and took a lot of advantage of this new technology.

Mi amigo @ramkarooz, quien me había estado comentando acerca de la tecnología Bitcoin desde 2020, en Enero de 2022 le escribo preguntándole cómo podía ganar dinero con ella. Debido a que era mucha información para mí en aquel entonces, no lo entendí, y decidí estudiarlo por mí mismo. Tres semanas después sabía qué era un NFT, una criptomoneda y una blockchain, lo que me adentró en algo no solamente nuevo para mí, sino también para el mundo, y fue donde me adentré enormemente y le saqué mucha ventaja a esta nueva tecnología.

I returned to art and music, creating NFTs from my artwork, making $300 in just two months and over $100 more from music. @ramkarooz and I started learning and lecturing at the same time, eventually founding what is now known as the Five Senses project. We created a community, and a multidisciplinary team of colleagues where we taught online courses to people who wanted to learn the technology, creating and expanding the niche in our province, becoming known as the most prominent in the area.

Volví al arte y a la música, creando NFTs a partir de mis obras llegando a ganar $300 dólares en tan sólo dos meses y más de $100 dólares más con la música. @ramkarooz y yo empezamos a aprender y a dar conferencias a la vez, llegando a fundar lo que se conoce hoy como el proyecto Five Senses. Creamos una comunidad, y un equipo multidisciplinario de colegas en donde impartimos cursos online a personas que quisieran conocer la tecnología, creando y expandiendo el nicho por nuestra provincia, llegándonos a conocer como los más destacados en el área.

A little later, a Mexican friend of mine invited me to join his record label, of which I am now CEO. Electro Spick Records is a home for electronic dance musicians who want to share their art with the world and certify their work with blockchain technology. The mistakes from Arvansis I learned very well and modified them in such a way that I turned them into opportunities. The songs are distributed by contracts, and the artists pay nothing, but the label pays them a very large percentage quickly and directly; we expand the music to the Web3 space and the NFT music ecosystem, which is still very virgin, which positions us among the first, our target audience being mainly the Cuban public and collectors everywhere.

Un poco más adelante, un amigo mexicano, me invita a formar parte de un sello discográfico, del cual hoy soy CEO. Electro Spick Records es una casa para los artistas de la música electrónica que quieren compartir su arte con el mundo y además de eso, certificar sus obras con tecnología blockchain. Los errores de Arvansis los aprendí muy bien y los modifiqué a tal manera que los convertí en oportunidades. Las canciones se distribuyen por contrato, y los artistas no pagan nada, sino que el sello les paga a ellos un por ciento muy grande de manera rápida y directa; expandimos la música al espacio Web3 y el ecosistema de la música NFT, el cual es muy virgen aún, lo que nos posiciona de entre los primeros, siendo nuestro público objetivo el público cubano sobre todo y coleccionistas de todas partes.

Today I live happily, I refused to earn 4400 CUP a month, equivalent to $15 dollars for a Monday to Friday 8 hour job, I gained in reputation, I eliminated hating towards me, I climbed in knowledge and I trained people in entrepreneurship of which I am proud of. This is the summary of my journey in entrepreneurship, I have not reached success as I still have several goals to achieve and new projects I want to do. What about you? Hoy por hoy vivo feliz, me rehusé a ganar 4400 pesos mensuales, equivalentes a $15 dólares por un trabajo de lunes a viernes de 8 horas, gané en reputación, eliminé el hating hacia mí, escalé en conocimiento y formé a personas en emprendedurismo de las cuales me siento orgulloso. Este es el resumen de mi camino en el emprendimiento, no he llegado al éxito ya que aún tengo varias metas que cumplir y proyectos nuevos que quiero hacer. ¿Y tú? ¿Ya emprendiste o estás empezando?
