What is an AMA?

AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.

How long will I answer questions?

I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in. I am going to hop out in a few hours to go see Violent Santa but will be back to answering questions after.

I mean the root cause, not the typical answer that you are just sick of idiots yet what was the breakingbpoint or have you always been?

As an asshole myself (always been since I can remember, a trait from my father) I feel I can ask this without too much personal feelings getting involved.

I can't say I know much about it, but I have always been saying we need to focus on onboarding as we currently suck at it. I have seen a few posts and I think it's a good thing but I don't know much of the details.

The beginning is so damn slow. It's like a grind before you "take control" of your character, and it seems to do everything in it's power to make it a pain in the ass to do anything. At least in the beginning. I plan to come back to it and finish it, and I'm sure once I get going I'll love it, but the first few hours I wanted to throw my computer out the window. I love cut scenes, I love great intros, but I hate long winded tutorials that force you down a narrow path not allowing you to do what you want. It also runs like crap on even the best hardware. If that wasn't enough on Linux it is a big pain in the ass due to the custom loader they keep changing making it harder to get running.

I can see where you're coming from, the intro does seem to go on, but once you get out of the snowy part of the map the world truly opens up and is great to explore and get lost in. The characters are all great, and Arthur is one of the best written and developed characters I've played as in a long time.

Hi, I want to ask about your experience being a hive witness, how it was when you first started, what you did to get votes and any other tips and wisdom you can offer me as a new witness, just over two months now. I purposely wanted to run my own server and host it here in Adelaide.

I am probably the wrong person to ask about this, the common practice is to spam memos and beg everyone for votes, something I do not take part in nor do I appreciate.

I started a witness the first month I became active on Steem and it took me a while to even break top 100, then even longer for top 50. I think one of the advantages I had was I am a technical person, and personally that's something that is a critical factor in who I vote for personally.

There is a lot less competition now since the split, we have a lot fewer active witnesses and freedom no longer votes witnesses which was a significant factor in who got top 20 and even top 30.

The best advice I can give you is to put yourself out there, a lot of witnesses you only know are a witness because they are on the list, you never see them, they don't post, and they may not even be around outside of making sure their witness is printing Hive.

I think the only John Candy movie I've seen is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and I just watched that within a year or two because someone raved about how good it was. Ultimately I didn't agree.

Both. I mostly keep anything that is critical offsite so as to not have downtime as we get snow and lose power 0-3 times a year. I do run a lot on my network as well.

Not many people know of Hive, fewer investing in it. We pissing away a ton of money on proposals extracting 10x of what they are providing. Our onboarding doesn't work a lot of the time and we have virtually no marketing. We have good technology but that on it's own isn't enough.

I think things have gotten worse, we are spending millions per year on proposals that are not bring in new users, we have a tiny user base with lots of sell pressure. We don't seem to be doing anything about it, and in fact it has been getting worse.

The fact you are a top witness is very telling what a shit show that place is. Looking forward for when you try to sell. I sold my Blurt airdrop when it actually was worth something. Like 1/10th of what you have now and still worth more than what your stake is.

I have been on Hive for pretty much a year and a half, and I feel like I am pretty much not doing as well as I would actually want to. Can you give some tips that you feel deep down will help me please, even if its just one

Consistency is probably the best tip I can give you. This is true for all social media. If you post every day, stick with that. People tend to expect the same schedule if they enjoy your content. But honestly, it isn’t as big of a deal on Hive, it is far less competitive than any other social media. Nowhere in the world can you get $100+ for ~40 views and probably about 1-2 people actually reading your content. Just do your best.

Hey, for Steem you created a program that deleted or hid all the posts at once, do you have something like that for Hive? You never know when you might need something like that to delete yourself in case of an emergency. Remember, sometimes you don't know who is snooping around just to find information on how to screw you over. Thanks, I hope you have that tool and if not, please build it. Huh? She was pissed I voted her post because it meant appreciator wouldn’t vote as well and he voted for more than I did. I got tons of threats and complaints from Rutablockchain group back then crying I was such an asshole for voting them because I didn’t give as much as appreciator. It was pathetic and disgusted me. Never will I vote or support anyone again in that community.

As you know, a lot of people are getting hacked off with the DHF - is there any way we as a community can make a positive change for the better? Or is such an action "pissing in the wind?"

Also, we've held on tightly to our Hive Punks. Will you be doing anything with them this year? Or is that something that I'll just keep locked away for longer? :)

I don't believe there is much that can be done, you can't downvote proposals and some of them are approved with very few votes so there are few people you can try to convince otherwise. This is one of the main reasons I am running the @buildawhale burn posts to try to counter at least a small portion of the sell pressure from the proposals extracting 10x than they provide. Even burning $14K+/month is just a drop in the bucket compared to the typical $400-800/day proposal.

Also, we've held on tightly to our Hive Punks. Will you be doing anything with them this year? Or is that something that I'll just keep locked away for longer? :)

I am not sure I am doing much of anything at this point. The plan was one or two unannounced games, but for various reasons I am just not sure I am up for it.

I've grown to love that punk, and was using it for a while, but I changed to deadpool a while ago just for a change of pace. I think it was originally to help test the NFT profile feature with PeakD team and I just stuck with it.

I like Doug, I gave him a backstory and I kind of grew attached to him as well. I did a giveaway with him as well where I hide some money for users to find.

Hive is getting visibility because of splinterlands and splinterlands is not getting visibility due to being stuck in this chain. I wish splinterlands would move to another chain. Then you are left alone here and keep farming rewards after making this kind of shit post.
