Relaunching Hive Minecraft

I have been working on getting a new Hive Minecraft server up and running and it is ready to go.

As before, it is a whitelist only server, so it is limited to Hive users only.

Hive Minecraft uses a large modpack called All the Mods 9. It is referrred to as a Kitchen Sink pack meaning there are lots of mods and directions you can go with it. You can play as simple or as complex as you like. For example, you can power your base with nuclear reactors and even travel to the Mars and even have an orbital space station.

To play, you will need at least 8GB of ram, ideally 16GB or more, but you should be able to get by with 8GB. You will also need a Minecraft Java license, if you don't have one you can purchase one directly through Microsoft for $29.99.

How to play Hive Minecraft

You will first need a launcher, I recommend Prism Launcher. Once downloaded, I it will ask you for your min/max memory settings. Ideally you set it to 10,000MB max memory, if you only have 8GB of ram, reduce that to 6144MB. Even if you have 32GB or more ram, I don't recommend setting it over 10,000MB, Java has really bad garbage collection. 10G is plenty, but you do need to make sure you have at least 2GB left for your operation system to prevent issues, so don't set it to your entire ram.

You will then need to add your Minecraft account. You can see that in the top right.

Once you have that setup, you need to add an instance, this is a copy of Minecraft with any mods you want to use. In our case, we are going to go to Curse Forge, and choose All the Mods 9.

At this time, the server is running 0.2.12, so make sure you select that version. This will take a few minutes to install and a couple of the mods cannot be downloaded automatically and you will be prompted to manually download them. If you use the default downloads location to download the mods, you can just click ok once downloaded and it will auto find and install the mods.

Once installed, you should be able to start the game and then chose "Multiplayer". You will need to add our server, so click add and enter in "Hive Minecraft" for the name and "minecraft.usehive.com" for the address.

You will need to be whitelisted before playing, so head over to our discord server and let us know you want to be whitelisted.

At this point you should be able to connect within a few minutes of the initial setup.

Once in, you will be placed at spawn.

From here you can look around at spawn, and run off to find a place to call home. You can also use the /rtp command to teleport to a random spot in the world and explore from there.

Once you find a place you want to call home, use /sethome to set that as your /home spawn. You can always return to this spot by using /home. You can always return to spawn by using /spawn.

There is also a live map you can view to see the world and all the players in real time.

There is a world chat channel in discord which is syncronized with Hive Minecraft's in game chat. There is also a world voice chat you can join if you want to hang out on voice with other players on the server.

If you decide to create posts on Hive about your experience, please use the #hiveminecraft & #minecraft tags.

I do highly recommend you enable shaders, go into settings, then video, then shader packs and select the unbound shaeders and apply.

The difference is massive, especially with lighting and water.

I recommend players to work together as a team, which you can use the FTB Teams module (top left corner when looking at your inventory) to create and join teams. This allows you to share resources and work together.

Everyone starts out with the ability to claim one chunk, this protects it from all other players. As you spend time on the server, additional ranks will unlock. With these ranks, comes additional claims and eventually force loaded chunks.

Claims can only be held for 14 days, if you haven't logged in withint 14 days, you will lose your claims.

You can check out the previous Hive Minecraft Post for some tips on getting started. Most of them are still valid.

Awesome man! Thanks for all the instructions! Hoping I can hop on after work this week but worst case I’ll be on this weekend!

I would a server like cubecraft, or hypixel. A server with emblematics colors of Hive, and a good presence for our players and anyone. But I think that the community of Hivecrafters is little for now. But it will grow over time. That's nice!
