Writing Prompt: “not my jurisdiction”, entry posted by thepavsalford
Hello again, fellow Freewriters, and Hiveans, in general!
This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 24 June 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3144: not my jurisdiction.
“Unfortunately, no matter whether we like it or not, we have to admit failure, I’m afraid…”, Helen said in despair.
“Well, I don’t want to make things worse, but I think I told you that there was no point trying to do something that was doomed to fail in the first place.”, John said, and nodded his head in disapproval.
It was evident that tension was rising slowly between the couple, as neither Helen nor John were willing to take a step back and discuss things calmly.
After being together for quite a few years, you could expect that they would have already found ways to get around problems smoothly and avoid heated arguments, but this was not the case, apparently.
So, when Helen turned her face away for a moment, she saw her father sitting in the corner reading his newspaper.
“Hey, dad. What do you think about all this?”.
The old man didn’t like her disrupting his reading, as he smelled trouble immediately.
He made a swift escape.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, but it’s not my jurisdiction.”.
Haha, the father's response was priceless! Sometimes staying out of an argument is the wisest choice. Nice little story.
