Playing chess again after a long time | Chess.com is an amazing application

Hello everybody!

Long time since I made my last post in this community, and is that I could not continue with my activity in the world of chess:( In my life there were a lot of changes that made me leave aside this amazing sport and I have more than a year without even touching a virtual board.

A couple of weeks ago I watched a chess video, specifically the game between Dubov and Karjakin from 2020, for many called the best game of the year, and possibly one of the best games in history.

But that's not the point of this post: The point is, I'm back to the boards!

Screenshot_1.png

Possibly not in my best shape, in fact, I'm not even 1% close to playing with the same strength I used to play with in my golden days. I started to play on chess.com and to constantly play games to gradually recover my tactical vision, and I hope that as time goes by I will recover my chess knowledge.

For now I have focused on playing blitz games and also on solving tactical problems on the chess.com platform, and it was amazing to see that I still haven't lost my tactical vision completely.

Screenshot_2.png

Really, the only thing I have done since I returned to chess is to solve tactical problems like never before.

One of the teachings that most focused on giving me was to emphasize how important it was the tactical vision in the game. In a single position it is important to be totally attentive to any possible combination or tactical resource that will give us the advantage.

Screenshot_3.png

In order to be able to do as many exercises as possible I decided to take advantage of the free week of premium when you add a credit card to your chess.com account; so basically I will be able to solve exercises non-stop for a week and try to recover my tactical vision.

Screenshot_4.png

I am impressed by how quickly I reached 2000 points in the problem-solving ELO, although I still remain distant from my maximum ceiling (which if I remember correctly was about 2600-2700 ELO).

Screenshot_6.png

And so far, my maximum is 2114 ELO. I remain pretty solid in terms of solving tactical combinations based on positions that become quite familiar or that I have already seen constantly.

My current problem is that I basically forgot to think about chess. I don't know how to explain for sure what is happening to me, but I get the feeling that I don't know how to start recreating plans and start making moves with a meaning each: I just seem to play for the sake of playing, and when there is a tactical resource, I take advantage of it.

Screenshot_7.png

I mostly only play blitz games so I guess that's part of the problem, so I think I'll start playing games with more time to stop and force my brain to think critically and explore possibilities (my variant calculus is also a mess D:)

For now, I plan to bring more posts, maybe not so elaborate because it's a bit complicated for me to make long posts talking about chess, so maybe I'll bring posts with specific tactical positions or talking about games that I find worthy to analyze.

For now, I'm just happy to be able to play this fantastic sport and I hope to bring much more content to share with you.

Thank you very much for reading all this.
