Cleaning a toilet is not on the top of the list of things people like to do. It is cumbersome and requires a lot of hard work. The task becomes even more monotonous and demanding if you look at public toilets in offices, malls, railway stations and airports.

How much does a janitor get paid to clean toilets?

Though the pay may differ widely from country to country and state to state however if we look at the pay of a janitor in the USA then it is in the range of $34000 per year.
Not to mention the job means a lot of hard work.

Could AI someday take over the janitors job?

Well this is not even a valid question anymore as AI powered robots are already doing the job of janitors in New York.
These silent workers do not need to take a break for food or smoke. They can work unrelentlessly 24X7 without complaint.

When it comes to the cost of running the AI powered robots is one third the cost of the pay that needs to be given to a human janitor.

The cleaning job is being done by a robot called Somatic that is an autonomous robot that is already deployed to clean public toilets in offices across New York.

Watch them in action in this video

They are replacing a job which is quite repetitive and not on the top priority list of humans.

The initial learning curve for AI cleaning robots

The AI powered cleaning robots have some initial learning to do. With the help of the incorporating virtual reality paired with AI tech the robots learn to move and work according to the particular layout of individual restroom layouts.

By incorporating these methodologies, those training these robots are able to help the robots learn even from a remote location.

Each AI driven robot has a built in robot arm along with cleaning tool aids such as means to dispense both detergents as well as pressurized water.

This is all they would need to do the job of deep cleaning each toilet and leave it only when it is sparkling clean.

Are these AI robots fully autonomous?
For most part these AI janitors are equipped however they still need some assistance from the human janitors. Tasks like changing toilet paper rolls and refilling of supplies still need the role of a human being.

Would AI robots take away all our jobs?

That is a very valid question on the minds of many people around the world. To answer this it would be best to see how a new tech changes the job scene.
Back in the days when computers were introduced in offices and banks a lot of people feared that they would lose their jobs.
The apprehension and misinformation was so severe that a lot of people resorted to strikes and demonstrations against the use of computers.
Today the entire IT sector is powered by computers and gives jobs and employment to so many people around the globe.
Similarly AI would create so many jobs and new skills would emerge that would require the ability to harness the new technology.
As long as people are willing to learn and adapt there would be plenty of jobs available in jobs created by the AI driven industries.

Wow! AI is taking territories gradually. Janitors will be unemployed as it stands but as you've just said, it will also come with opportunity for those who are able to blend.
