First time Churros with my daughter! - Good memories!

churros .png

I was craving churros for three weeks!

Maybe it even was three years, lol as I had nice memories of churro moments back in Spain.
Unfortunately, in the area of our first Airbnb apartment, there was no "churreria" within walking distance. Besides that, the walking there was not as pleasant as it is here on the boulevard with the ocean breeze cooling us off and making the heat a lot more pleasant! I decided to just wait until we found one in the next area or maybe when we settle. Last week I was browsing through the area on maps and found several churrerias! Great! I asked my daughter if she wanted to go and try them one morning and so we planned on going last Monday. That is until I discovered they were closed on Mondays, oops! A little disappointed but still looking forward to going the next morning, we went there yesterday and it was a nice walk where we captured some great street art of eyes and discovered some new hidden streets in the area which we hadn't seen yet.

These are actually the things making it worth having a little walk with my daughter, we enjoy the surroundings and time together. Of course, the churros were a treat!

I always order my churros with coffee instead of chocolate. Although I love chocolate in many ways, I don't fancy the chocolate they serve with churros here, I love the combination with a good coffee though, so good! I remember eating churros in the other area where we lived and often getting served these greasy churros, those we ate last week were nothing like it. The restaurant is a family restaurant and already existed for many years so I noticed on their logo, that's noticeable when you receive your churros.

Churros con chocolate (Churros with Chocolate)

While I enjoy the coffee with churros, the little one was more than happy to get her churros with chocolate! Every bite was carefully dipped into the chocolate and enjoyed by her! We even ordered another portion to share as she loved them so much. I know it's not a healthy breakfast but every now and then one's allowed to have a little cheat breakfast, especially if it's a nice walk with the lady in the neighborhood.

She also seemed to enjoy these moments together as she asked if we could stay a little longer when we were done. Cutie :)

We have now left this part of the area, so we will have to find a new churreria in the future to have this breakfast, everything at the right time though, so I'm not in a hurry to find a new one.
Have you ever eaten churros? Did you like them or hate them? My boyfriend really doesn't like them and it's usually guaranteed issues with his stomach as well, so it's not for him. This one will remain a mommy-daughter breakfast.

Hello @thisismylife

I've never heard about Churro before!
In the Philippines, I had a twisted dough called Shakoy that looks similar. They eat it as a dry snack, mainly at 15:00 hour.

I think I would like the Churro on it's own, not dipped in Coffee, and definitely not dipped in Chocolate. Simply because I don't like eating any dough that might be a little soggy 🤷‍♀

Hi @millycf1976, sorry for my late response, things have been so crazily hectic. But I appreciate your comments :)

I can't tell if these snacks from the Philippines are the same, I would personally not enjoy the churros dry to be honest, but that may be preference..

The chocolate is actually thicker than coffee. It's not normal chocolate drink it's more a chocolate sauce in terms of thickness. I always loved dipping cookies in coffee too haha, so I don't mind. But not every day of course..

I had churros from a street vendor one time and I about died they were so good. We had them with chocolate but coffee would be equally delicious. As a breakfast, churros and coffee is the equivalent of what we do in Canada, which is coffee and donuts (another fried dessert). It's not healthy either but sometimes it has to be done.

@leaky20 this is the second mention of donuts and I'm now having a serious crave... I'm curious about Churros...just not dipped in anything though 🤣

Donuts are a very Canadian thing - they are a stereotype actually lol. Every culture seems to have its own version of fried dough lol

Oh, I didn't know that about Canada...in fact, I only know of Maple Syrup...I bet you like that?
Our Canadian friends in the Philippines always bought us huge bottles of Maple Syrup as gifts.

Maple syrup is okay. It has to be real, not the artificial stuff. I dont eat it often. My cousin makes it each year though, by tapping his own trees on his lot.

Oh yeah! I only do REAL Maple Syrup...otherwise, I'd just go for real honey instead. Our friend in the Philippines only bought REAL stuff... He is paranoid about what he eats....You can't tell by looking at him though, because he's a humpty dumpty🤣

Oh wow! I've never heard of such things. I know you can dip biscuits in tea or coffee, but I haven't seen this! lol

I admit, I never heard of them either until I moved to Spain the first time, it's really something Spanish (I think). Biscuit dipping I know from a young age, yum!

btw, I signed up for Binance and transferred some fiat there. hopefully, the USDT should come through for us soon. Do I need to buy USDT for us to get the bonus?

Oh nice, I remember you asking for the link, I happen to check it yesterday and saw a new ref. I think you have to deposit at least 50 bucks or 50 usdt (I would need to look it up, not 100% sure) I don't know if you're logged in any time soon (I won't be as I need to clean up a bit first and then the landlord comes to solve some issues) but if you go to the ref tabs in your account, the rules should be there. It's been a while since I read it so I'm really not sure which one it was :)

but please let me know once you find out, I will not be logged in before tomorrow probably. Thanks for using my ref though. I honestly thought everyone already had a Binance account :)

Good that you see it on your side. It says USDT or USD so should be good! Have a great weekend!

Nice! Should be all good then, I think it would take some weeks, but not sure, usually that's the case. Maybe even 30 days? It's 30 days with Nexo at least..

You have a good Sunday too!

Mmmmmm ... Churros! I love them but can't eat them. 2 months ago I also cheated and had them. I shared the plate with my hubby and only ate 1, as that's the limit for me. I plan to make them myself in a way I can tolerate it. (spelt flour instead of white flour and Airfryer instead of deep frying). But that will be somewhere in future when I have a lot of time!
Like you said, it's not really healthy to eat them, but if you only do it once in a while enjoy the moment. On the other hand ... If you walk to the churreria you already burn some of the calories 😏

Oh sucks! But I know how that goes when you don't tolerate a lot of food, my boyfriend is the perfect example and I'm very happy for him that those issues are far less since we arrived here. Although not completely over, because the past few days he had some issues, not horribly long but they were there. Time to up the veggie intake again!

I never had an airfryer but always wanted one. Here we are not sure yet on what fits in the kitchen and what not, we have a LOT of storage in that tiny kitchen it's amazing and SO much bigger than we ever had in a bigger kitchen, we totally miscalculated that.. So we may end up buying those appliances after all (not right away) as they can fit in some cabinets easily :)

Haha, it was indeed walking, and so will all other stuff be from now on until we have a car of our own. The rental van is now on its return, but we loaded up water for maybe 2 months (will be fun to see how long it lasts) and a lot of groceries today as well. It was expensive to rent it but at least it helped us find stuff for the home.

Have a good Sunday!

The Airfryer is one of the best things in the kitchen. A lot of people buy them just to make snacks. I make almost everything in it, except steak. But I even make bread in it. I use it a lot to make my meat/chicken. It's so tender and it doesn't dry out. If there was only one thing I could place in my kitchen that would be a hard choice between a coffee machine and an Airfryer.

Haha, well I heard that a lot that people make all kinds of things in it which I never thought was even possible. Bread is something I didn't expect to read either :)

I will seriously consider buying one but not this month, already spent so much and we also need a desk first so the air frying will have to wait :) I think the coffee machine will be first as well.. I don't drink it daily anymore, but I do enjoy a cup from time to time so I really want to have one again, but until I have one, coffee will have to come from sitting on a terrace, "how horrible" :)

Mmmmm @thisismylife we used to enjoy these many years ago, but always found they looked better than they tasted lol.

But the whole cafe vibe in Spain is very cool.

Often that's the case, but not this time, they were good. I hate it when they serve a greasy bunch of them, which I know from the time we lived near Granada. If they are prepped well, I like them, but not too much.

I agree on the lifestyle here it's great, I feel so much happier here and it makes me smile seeing all these people gather during the day..

Those look really good. I doubt that if I was craving something that much I could wait that long to finally have it. Of course sometimes there is no choice if you don't have the time or ingredients to make it yourself.

Yeah making them myself (if possible) would probably end up in a disaster so not worth the try because they are actually super cheap to eat somewhere. Not messing with that recipe, just enjoying that every once in a while is enough. I found a churreria nearby our new home so we will check that out somewhere in the next weeks probably because my daughter likes them so much..

I totally understand that. And how often do we really want to eat that stuff anyway? It's great for a treat once in awhile. 😀
Happy Sunday and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I don't like churros with chocolate either, although it is the most common, I think it is too sweet, and the coffee gives it a more bitter and pleasant touch to the palate.

Yes, I agree, I do like chocolate milk from time to time, but that chocolate is not really like chocolate milk, way too thick if you ask me. Of course, my daughter didn't mind finishing the cup after the churros were finished lol.

Thanks for stopping by!
