Banana bread is a favorite in our home

Well, at least by two of us because my boyfriend doesn't fancy it at all. We love having it for breakfast or lunch or as a snack. I usually freeze in part of the bread and leave the rest for the next days. We never have to throw out any of it except for one time when I didn't put the bread in the fridge during summer, oops. That was a waste of bread and will not happen again.

Banana bread recipe

You only need to have these ingredients for the original banana bread (chocolate twist follows after)

  • 125 grams of melted butter
  • 200 grams of sugar
  • 2 big eggs
  • 50 ml of milk
  • a teaspoon of vanilla aroma
  • 250 grams of flour
  • teaspoon of baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 2/3 mashed bananas (depending on size)
  • cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat the oven at 220 degrees Celcius.

Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar. Add the eggs one by one and then add the milk together with the vanilla aroma.
Add the flour, baking soda and salt at once until you have a nice batter. Now add the mashed bananas together with the cinnamon before you place it in a baking tin (I always add parchment paper in the baking tin) and now bake for 15 minutes at 220 degrees Celcius, then 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celcius and last 30 minutes on 170 degrees Celcius.

Note: I used to have another oven before this one where I'd use 1 temp only for 1 hour but it will fail in this one if I do. This is my personal new perfect baking instruction, but it depends on your oven. Try it first with 200 degrees for 1 hour if you aren't sure about your oven and adjust accordingly is my advice.

Chocolate twist

Now the only thing I changed for the chocolate twist in this recipe yesterday was simply adding a few big spoons of Dutch cocoa powder to the mix after the step of the flour together with the mashed bananas. I left out the cinnamon for this twist because I think it will be overpowered by the cocoa anyway.

Let me tell you, it came out so good! I suspected it would because we love adding Nutella to our sliced banana bread. Instead we now have a banana bread with chocolate flavour. So good!

Try it, you will love it!
