Surrounded by street art

I love the memories of our trips to Spain some years ago. Especially Seville street art made an impression. Such an artistic city, you can taste it when wandering through the streets. Today I want to share some street art we found in another part of Spain, Almeria. We saw plenty of artwork on all kinds of buildings but this one seemed to be 3d. I never looked up the artist but I can see that the art represents the area.

Almost stuck in the city

Looking back at these pictures reminds me that we were this close to ending up back in a dirty city once again. We swore that we would be flexible as long as we wouldn't end up in a town that would feel the same as our district in Budapest. We were so done with the nasty looks and smells that I really resented the city and the tiniest walk was a pain because we had to pass all the smelly corners first. We moved there because the apartment was a serious upgrade and it was a safe building so it seemed, but we swore this was the last time we'd lower the standards as we did there. And there we were again, a house visit in the middle of the big capital, where we said we would not look.

Time was not on our side

Even though our emigration process went smoothly if you don't count the last-minute stress, lol, we knew it was going to be exciting and maybe stressful finding something in time. Summer was around the corner, and so were the 1000 euros/week rental prices. We'd run out of money if we had to do that in a few weeks so I was determined, we needed to find something max. after our second rental so we could cancel the third, much more expensive Airbnb. We found out none of the brokers responded and once one person did, we were lucky we could go and check it that evening. The apartment was great and big, but in the middle of the city with aircos that could not keep up and you could feel this was already way too hot there in June, let alone in August.

We said no

We thanked the broker and said we didn't like the area either as it reminded us of Budapest. This was true, it was just as nasty as the nastiest district in Budapest (worse than our own district). He gave us another option, which was much more expensive, 1000 euros a month but everything was brand new and 3 bedrooms. We went there the next day, the art in the pictures is the underground garage where we had to park the rental van. We didn't love this area either because there was literally no parking spot, the only option was this underground one and traffic was a pain in general. But since we were there, we went up and have a look.

Scariest elevator ever

This elevator didn't even fit two people and I was scared to death using it, I didn't use it back down, I was too afraid to get stuck and have a panic attack, lol. So at that moment I already thought this isn't going to work. The apartment was great but the thing is living there too long would mean no car and be stuck in the city again. We decided to say yes in case we couldn't find anything the next week as time ran out and then we'd consider the deposit lost because we would probably move around September as soon as rental prices would drop again. Not ideal, but being homeless is even less ideal. Thankfully for us, a few days later, we could visit the apartment where we live now and all ended well. A normal monthly fee and lots of free parking space around us, now all we need is the car to park there.

The garage exit was a nightmare!

Fun fact, when we tried to leave the underground garage, we discovered that the exit was a very tight exit with a shitty corner. It was a pain to sit on the passenger seat as it felt like we hit the wall (turns out we didn't, oof), if there was a slight chance to convince my boyfriend to live there and park in that garage, that was definitely the end of it. I know I sure was not going to try, at least not with a bigger car or van. I'm so happy we ended up in this place where we live now instead. No more dirty city life for us!
