We are best friends - He just doesn't know it yet

The second men in the house

Is called Mochi, he stole my heart with his blue eyes and my boyfriend let him in. Now I have two men at home and one doesn't know that we are best friends yet. It's only been 6 weeks (I checked it a few days ago) but it feels like he's here 3 months without making much progress. Gosh, we are impatient for sure! Of course that's because our previous boss, Mojo the lady cat was letting me pet her much faster and actually enjoying it too. Mochi was supposed to be her buddy as we totally expected her to come back home, which didn't happen, sadly.

He's stuck with us

And no way that I'm going to let him escape after these long weeks of trying to make friends. He's a tough cookie but great entertainment for sure. The way he plays, or let's say kills his toys over and over again, we often laugh continuously when he does. It's so funny seeing him roll on the floor and jump in the sky with a tennis ball in between his paws. I should start filming it..

He's getting used to us slowly

Like they say here "paso a paso", step by step. Instead of getting spooked as soon as our hand comes near to pet him gently, he now usually accepts it and gives us the pleasure of touching his super soft fur for a few minutes, but sometimes he freezes, which makes us so sad as he should know by now that we are "his hoomans". He sure remembers as soon as any one of us is eating, and then sits next to the person eating, or in the kitchen prepping something, putting on his most adorable face, hoping he gets some of that food. I admit that it's hard to resist so he definitely knows how to get what he wants.

Black and white photography

I forgot about that option until recently I could not get my phone (huawei p30 pro) to get this little fella on camera without having a blur. I started going through settings and tried monochrome. I love how these came out and will probably use it more often. In the picture above he decided to relax on the couch with me when I was watching tv. A rare moment that I wanted to capture because these are definitely not the petting moments he allows us to have. Taking a picture is fine and he will wink away at us but no touching please!

While we wait for him to relax a bit more, I will just have to enjoy the small victories we have with him and enjoy his beauty :)

Male cats are different in their temperament than females are, especially if he was out there on the streets for most of his life before you took him in. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t warm up the same way the female cat did but that was my experience with them. One was great and the other never really warmed up too much. Not to make it sad but that’s their nature sometimes!

You should join in on monochrome Monday it’s fun!

Yeah I figured they are not the same cats so we'll have to see how it goes. They both came from the same outside spot, with the difference that Mochi was a little younger than Mojo, he was still a tiny fluffball, even though he seems huge now :)

I see improvement every day so we sure can't complain, and he has no harm inside because he could have lashed out many times when we petted him, but he chooses to walk away or turn his head instead. He's very friendly even though still scared of hoomans in general. The playful side of him is awesome though, then you can see that he COULD kill easily :) glad he never decides to scratch or bite us when he's fed up.

We can only keep trying and we sure will not give up. He's part of the family now rather he likes it or not :)

I will try to remember the monochrome Monday, thanks!

Have a great Sunday!

Oh no! I am so sorry Mojo ran away! Please get Mochi neutered as soon as possible so he too doesn't have the desire to run out into the world. Hugs to you!

Yes we're still very sad about it, miss her every day..

Mochi will go within the next month, need to go to the vet to make the appointment, we prefer doing it when we have a car (hoping to get one in the next weeks) so we can just put him in the car instead of walking with the carrier which is more uncomfortable for him as well as uphill for us :) lol

But still hoping daily that Mojo returns, although I don't think the chances are high :(

Big hug back!

Mocchi seems a big guy and hopefully the progress will keep going until you all grow familiar. Great photo! I love his looks!

He seems so enchanting, but it is true that some cats need their time to show comfort at all times with their "hoomans".
😌 paso a paso, as you said.
