In GhanašŸ‡¬šŸ‡ Cost of Living is Killing The Living- The Annoyance, WE 148

If You are living in a big city in Ghana and you are comfortable with the money that you spend to be alive, then itā€™s either because youā€™re a cultist, a ritualist, or a corrupt politician.

The cost of living is hunting every living thing in Ghana. Day in and day out, peopleā€™s lives have been constantly drained by the amount of money they spend on food, internet services, and fuel (gas).

Before I say anything, I think all Network Service Providers in Ghana should have AK-47 Machine guns on their front desks. Because this work they are now doing is not smaller than armed robbers' work. So they should stop disguising themselves.

Only this month, I have already spent money on internet bundles more than anything. Even food, When itā€™s not like I do hotspot for my entire extended family. And if you ask around, everyone is crying about these overpriced internet services, except a few drug sellers and ritualists. (People who have done money)

And the most annoying thing is that after paying all this money, the kind of internet youā€™ll still get will be useless. On a normal day, the number of times I press airplane mode to refresh my internet is more than the number of times I press any other thing on my phone.

I was not sure which one to rant about first, between the cost of food and the cost of internet services.

These days youā€™ll look at the prices of food and ask yourself again if you are really hungry.

Everyone is already aware of the overpriced trash food in restaurants, what about the new rates that roadside fast food joints are now charging for jallof rice and chicken? As Iā€™m talking now, even an egg, a common embryo is expensive to buy. And it's not as if the rice is plenty, if I give this same amount of money to maame in my hometown, she will give me three plates of rice and big chicken and even squeeze egg inside for me. But in this city, youā€™ll spend the same amount on food and youā€™ll still be hungry and malnourished.

As for the issue of the price hikes of fuel, itā€™s shameful to talk about. Ghana is one of the few countries in the world that are blessed with crude oil reserves, yet the amount we pay for fuel here is insane. The most annoying thing about this fuel issue is the velocity at which the prices increase. Before you close your eye and open, the government will have already added a dollar or more to the price of petroleum. Itā€™s crazy! Just within four years, fuel prices in Ghana have gone from 6 Ghana cedis per liter to 14 Ghana cedis per liter. And itā€™s still going!

There are more annoying factors that contribute to the high cost of living in a city in Ghana, but because Iā€™m a patriotic citizen and I donā€™t want to open my countryā€™s nyash to all of you, Iā€™ll stop at these three. Iā€™ll not mention the ridiculous prices homeowners charge for rent.

Rather, Iā€™ll suggest some possible ways we as Ghanaians can rectify these problems.

One of the most important sectors that contributes massively to our countries GDP is agriculture. Investing more in agriculture will help our farmers produce more food all year round. If we donā€™t have to worry about importing rice and tomatoes from Burkina Faso šŸ‡§šŸ‡« I believe we wonā€™t have to worry about the price we pay for a plate of rice and chicken.

Another thing the government can do to minimize the cost of services in the country is reduce the amount of taxes they impose on these companies. If theses companies pay less taxes to produce their products and services, I believe they wonā€™t charge average Ghanaians insane rates for services

This is my second post on this weekendā€™s topics, thanks to the Easter holidays and of course @galenkp for the interesting topics

I want to believe you are one of the MTN data zone people. They are the most frustrated set of people in Ghana right nowšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Looks like Ghana is not an exception when it comes to life expenses. I'm really sorry to hear about what you have to face there. Let's hope things can change in better, soon.

Ghana is a definitely a country of huge expenses. The demand for imported goods and the recent decline in the cedi price have made cost of living in the country more expensive, especially the cities.

The current system change for MTN zone bundles has really worried many than ever. Itā€™s sad, especially if you donā€™t have any source of income. I was one of the victims, I started spending 10gh on data than the usual so I came up with a decision of purchasing the MTN 399ghc data where u get 182gig unlimited and 50% bonus (91gig). It was a very tough decision my brother, people who know me so well know how economical I am, @depressedfuckup can attest to that. I did the maths myself, and this can last me 6months thatā€™s if my friends donā€™t help me finish it before then. Far better than MTN zone. If you can afford that, I would advise you do same.

Yeah Iā€™ve been considering jumping on this offer cos a couple of my friends have mentioned it too. It sounds expensive in theory, but is actually cost effective. Iā€™ll definitely hop on it when I can afford it. Better than the alternative right now.

I think we spoke about this sometime ago. Itā€™s home how related to fuel, you can save yourself some cedis when you purchase in bulk

I think zolo mentioned that to me too. Data is becoming increasingly expensive everyday. I have both Mtn and Vodafone and believe me, none is better. Before you close eye open, Vodafone has already added a cedi or two to their data bundle amounts. Itā€™s so annoying

The bulk purchase is actually very thoughtful and economical. Iā€™ll definitely jump on it next month.

Thanks for stopping by my guy. I appreciate your comment and suggestionsšŸ‘šŸæ

Cost of living in urban areas generally is higher than that of rural areas. But these days, the lines between rural and urban living in terms of cost has become blurred out by the highly expensive services all over the country. As for things like food, I think people in rural areas have it better when it comes to cost.

For petrol prices sky rocketing, I think we might be nearing the days when that is no longer a problem, as the dollar (which is responsible for the ridiculous prices) is losing it's value since it's no longer backed by oil. This is just a possibility though, so we can't be too excited yet.

Like you said, Ghana is full of problems, so many that you couldn't even talk about in one post if you decided to shame your country. Lol. Let's just pray things get better over the next decade.
