Saka Village, Ahlat, Türkiye

Being close to Mount Nemrut on one side and Lake Van on the other would be something any villager would want. After Mount Nemrut erupted, lava scattered around, and tens of thousands of years later, this lava transformed into fertile soil. One of the most fertile lands in the country is found in Saka village. The villagers of Saka intensively cultivate agricultural products. Legumes, potatoes, and wheat are produced. Cooperatives have been established to ensure the efficient marketing of these products.

Bir taraftan Nemrut Volkanik Dağı'na, öte taraftan Van Gölü'ne yakın olmak her köylünün isteyeceği bir şey olabilir. Nemrut Dağı patladıktan sonra lavlar etrafa saçılıyor, onbinlerce yıl geçtikten sonra lavlar verimli topraklara dönüşüyor. Ülkenin en verimli topraklarından biri Saka köyünde bulunuyor. Saka köylüleri yoğun derecede tarım ürünleri yetiştiriyor. Baklagil, patates, buğday üretimi yapılıyor. Bu ürünlerlerin verimli şekilde pazarlanabilmesi için kooperatifler açılmış durumda.

Although not in large numbers, there are also fruit trees in the region. One of the biggest problems in this area is the insufficient number of trees. The mountains are completely bare, there are no trees at all. There is no irrigation water. Drilling is used for irrigation.

Yoğun miktarda olmasa da bölgede meyve ağaçları da var. Bu bölgenin en büyük sorunlarından biri ağaçların yeterince olmaması. Dağlar bomboş, dağlarda hiç ağaç yok. Sulama suyu yok. Sulama için sondaj yöntemi kullanılıyor.

Right next to these fertile lands lies Lake Van. Lake Van has a very significant influence on the region. During cold winter days, especially on the Ahlat side, the days are warmer due to the influence of Lake Van. While it may be snowing meters deep 30-40 km away, the amount of snow falling on the Ahlat side is around 15-20 cm.

Bu verimli toprakların hemen yanında Van gölü var. Van gölünün bölge üzerinde oldukça önemli etkisi var. Soğuk kış günlerinde özellikle Ahlat tarafında Van gölünün etkisiyle günler daha sıcak geçiyor. 30-40 km ileride metrelerce kar yağarken Ahlat tarafında yağan kar miktarı 15-20 cm civarında oluyor.

There is a fisherman's hut in this area. Lake Van is home to an endemic fish species called the pearl mullet. Lake Van is the most active in inland fishing in Türkiye. It is said that more than 10,000 tons of fish are caught annually. The fishermen here sell the fresh fish they catch from the lake to people passing by in their cars. Because it's a very busy road route, the fish are sold out quickly. The fish that don't sell out are heavily salted and preserved for later consumption. It's a great advantage for the villagers of Saka to have opportunities for both agriculture and fishing. Livestock farming isn't limited to fishing; there are also cattle farms here.

Bu bölgede bir balıkçı kulübesi var. Van Gölü'nde inci kefali adında endemik bir balık türü var. Türkiye'de iç sularda en fazla balıkçılık Van Gölün'de yapılır. Yıllık 10,000 tondan fazla balık avcılığı yapıldığı söylenir. Buradaki balıkçı gölden tuttuğu taze balıkları yoldan araba ile geçen insanlara satıyor. Oldukça yoğun kullanılan bir yol güzergahı olduğu için balıklar hemen tükeniyor. Tükenmeyen balıklar yoğuk miktarda tuzlanır ve saklanır. Sonraki dönemlerde tüketilir. Saka köylülerinin hem tarım hem balıkçılık imkanına sahip olması onlar adına büyük şans. Hayvancılık sadece balıkçılıkla sınırlı değil. Büyükbaş hayvan çiftliği de var buralarda.
