ATTENDING THE "AUM" THEATER PERFORMANCE FROM MANDIRI THEATER
Hi, Hive friends everywhere. Happy new year 2023. I hope you are blessed and always happy. Amen.
This is my first post this year. Yes, on the fifth of January, I had the opportunity to watch a theater performance at the Jakarta arts center, Taman Ismail Marzuki, for free!
The theater I watched with my friends from the literary community was called AUM.
AUM is a theatrical script written by senior writer Putu Wijaya. I am one of his fans. His monologue or drama script never fails to provide moral values and other good things.
The script for AUM was then performed by the Mandiri Theater community as well as a combination of other theater friends, such as: the el Nama'ma theater and the Syahid Theater from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta university.
Synopsis of "AUM"
Inspired by the mass suicide of Peoples Temple followers in Guyana (1978) led by pastor Jim Jones, the play AUM was written in 1982.
Tells the story of a family from a remote hamlet, led by the head of the family to face the Regent.
Complain about the various strange events that have occurred in his family that make them afraid. For example, there is a head that can fly. They asked the Regent to answer why this could happen.
The Mayor could not answer. They were asked to meet their superiors. Because the answers were not forthcoming, the head of the family invited his family members to ask God. When they also do not get an answer, then they kill themselves together.
That's the synopsis explained in the flyer that we got at the registration desk. Very interesting isn't it?
