My "Hiversary" - How my life changed after 1 year on Hive

I've been on Hive for a year, and my life has changed in many different ways. There's no better way to celebrate this date than by sharing what I've learned so far with others.

It was pretty much a coincidence that I remembered that today is my one-year anniversary on Hive. I talked to some people on Discord about how I found out about Hive, and I suddenly realized that it was precisely one year ago that I had my first contact with this blockchain.

It's not that I don't think it's an important milestone in my life, but it feels like it's been a part of me for so long that I haven't been keeping track of the days.

I have already told the story of how I got to Hive on my other account (@tfranzini), so I won't do that again. Instead, I want to tell you about how my life changed after that blessed morning, 365 days ago.

Hive is much more than crypto or money

I must admit that I found Hive because I was looking for a way to make money on the internet. I didn't really know much about crypto or blockchain technology. I knew those things existed, but that was about it. In fact, I used to think crypto was a huge scam, and that's one of the reasons why it took me so long to get involved.

Once I broke this barrier, I understood that crypto wasn't all that different from "real money," and so I decided that Hive could be a way to make some "easy money" on the internet. Back then, I was so clueless that I wasn't even after a large sum of money. In my mind, if I could make a few extra bucks every month to buy beer, that would be enough.

As I started to get involved with the community, I began to realize that an immense wealth could be built on Hive, but more importantly, I learned that Hive was much more than that.

Freedom and community

It was around the time I found out about LeoFinance and Leo Market Talk that I really started to understand what Hive really is about.

I found a community of people with the mindset of doing things differently, away from the grasp of big companies that run the world as we know it and watch our every step, people who wanted to be a part of a new world that runs on a new system. A system that is not based on scarcity.

Sure, we still make money here, some make a lot of money, and that's alright, but I don't see it as the end goal for me any longer. That's a consequence instead.

Hive is in constant development, and many new projects and applications are being created every day, and I genuinely believe that Hive is on the way to becoming a self-sufficient ecosystem one day. I'm not sure about the details of this new reality, but I'm sure it's coming, and I want to be a part of it.

My life now

I didn't get rich yet, and I have no idea when that will happen, but, as I've stated before, I don't think about that as much as I used to because I know that's bound to happen sooner or later.

That doesn't mean, however, that my life hasn't changed because it did — a lot.

I stopped wasting time on pointless social media run by centralized entities that made me work for them for free; I met a lot of new people with great ideas, different backgrounds and from different countries, I had the opportunity to become one of the first investors in projects that I really think are going to shape this new reality I'm talking about and, yes, I did accumulate a decent amount of cryptocurrency that maybe one day will be worth millions of dollars.

But no matter what happens, one thing is sure: I never felt that I had more power over my life than now. That is the real meaning of freedom.

Final thoughts

I think I've said enough already, and I really want to go mix myself a drink and celebrate this one year of my new life, so I'll just leave you with a quote from someone else on Hive, whose name I have sadly forgotten, and so I apologize in advance for not giving credit:

"I came for the money. I stayed for the community."

Cheers!
