The British based Crypto payments network, Electroneum is set to launch an in-app electricity top-up feature in four African countries. This move is geared towards enabling people, and allowing them to join the global digital economy, and to support digital payment projects for electricity in Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, and The Gambia.

We are expanding our ETN marketplace and we will soon be offering Nigerian’s the ability to pay for their electricity with ETN through the Electroneum app. The ability to pay for more expensive monthly costs such as utility bills makes earning ETN via AnyTask even more attractive for the unbanked. - Electroneum Official Website

What This Means to These Countries

In these African countries, the proposed electricity payment platform will allow users to recharge their electricity meters directly from the Electroneum app installed on their smartphones, making their payments in Electroneum tokens. This presents a flexible means of topping up users' meters, as the token can be earned through several different means, including mining on smartphones, as well as purchasing on crypto exchanges.

With over 2.4 million downloads of the Electroneum app, the company seems to be working to reach more people in developing nations. Their alliance with NGOs in these countries is a potential way of ensuring a wider use of cryptocurrencies in those regions.

The blockchain technology is progressively advancing, and it is becoming more evident that the Blockchain can greatly influence many aspects of everyday life, making it better. Definitely, more use cases and resolved issues will continue to spring up as years go by.
